The Cherished Line.

I respected Brother Idowu so much because he’s the first tenant to welcome me warmly into the house ever since I was able to rent my new apartment after searching for five months.

The house is now yours. Have the key but make sure you that you get a padlock which will serve as an extra security for your apartment, Mrs Taiwo, the landlady of the house said to me while I stretch out my hand forward to collect the key from her.

On the next day, I ordered a ride which helped me move my luggages from my previous apartment to the new one. I put all my luggages at the entrance of my apartment which also blocked the entrance of the other apartment thinking that I will be done packing them in before my neighbor gets back.

How do you want me to enter? You have to move your things away from here, I was shocked by the way the lady spoke to me. She didn’t even welcome me as her new neighbor. I apologized to her and immediately moved my things away from her doorstep.
I felt bad for her not welcoming me but attacked me like we were enemies. I continued my arrangement in the house when my other neighbor, Brother Idowu came to welcome me.

I can tell that you are our new neighbor. You’re welcome to our house and if you need anything, feel free to walk up to me and ask me, immediately Brother Idowu said that to me, I felt relieved that there was someone sensible in the house whom I can always talk to whenever I need anything or have any problem in the house.

On Sunday, I washed my clothes and looked around the compound for a space where I can spread my clothes on. I didn’t know how the compound worked but since it was a line, I just spread my cloth there thinking it was a general line for everyone living in that house.

Aunty, please don’t spread your clothes there next time. That line is meant for me alone and no other tenant uses it, no one has ever shouted at me in that way before. I was shocked to see Brother Idowu shout at me.

Is this not that same guy who welcomed me two days ago and even told me that if there was anything I needed, I can walk up to him and ask?, I asked myself and I was surprised by the sudden change of Brother Idowu. He could have told me politely instead of shouting and I was not aware that everyone has their lines.

I apologized to him and packed all my clothes away from his line. After two days, he knocked on my door when he was getting back from work and apologized to me.

It’s nothing sir. We’re very cool, I said to him after he had apologized to me but deep down in me, I wasn’t happy. The next time I wanted to spread my clothes, I went to check the backyard if I could draw a new line beside Brother Idowu’. Suddenly, I heard someone’s voice.

Aunty, please don’t forget not to spread your clothes on my line, I could tell that it was Brother Idowu’s voice. I looked back to see where the voice was coming from and I saw him peeping through the window.

Yes sir. I just want to check if I can draw my line here as well, I said to him calmly even though deep down in me, I was very angry. I went back to pick up my line and the clothes I want to spread.

On getting back there, I saw him removing his line again so I won’t be able to use it. I was surprised. He’s a grown up man and I do not even expect him to think like that.
How will a man remove a rope when it’s not like he wants to use it at that moment.

Later, I started to see the reasons why people don’t really talk to him in the compound. I was amazed because I thought Brother Idowu was the sharpest tool in the shed but I realized I was wrong.

After what he did, I never wanted to have an argument or anything to do with him because he thinks very low and I will not like to engage myself with someone like that.

I’m still living in that apartment but staying away about Brother Idowu.

Some neighbors can be like that; they will pretend to love or like you but won't let you have access to their property, just like Brother Idowu.

It's too bad that Brother Idowu wasn't the friend and neighbor that you thought he would be. I hope you were able to make new friends there and have a peaceful exsistence.
