The rain was falling massively as it was hitting the roof and sounding like a thousand soldiers. Carefully, sitting on my desk and looking deeply at my laptop screen, lot was running through my mind as the submission deadline for the article I was given is hours ago but it looks like my brain has went for holiday as it looks like there was no inspiration coming. No idea flowing, no headlines and in fact not even a sentence coming to make sense as My head went blank.
"Ade, quickly finish what you are doing or else, I will come to storm your castle!" Well, that was my mother voice and saying it in a way that I should hurry up. Of course my mother is someone who loves using dramatic statements and that is because she picked them from movies, books she has come across.
Recently, the latest statement she came across was "Storm the castle" and that is because she got it from a TV series she have been watching.
At first, I thought I should defend myself as afterall it was not like I was not doing something. I was actually focusing on finishing a work just that it was not working out well as I planned.
Looking around the room and still hoping for inspiration. My little brother, Tope lying down on the tile and looking at the TV, getting busy by play is favourite video game FIFA.
"Yaah!" he shouted. Well I begin to wonder "only if writing articles can be as simple as storming castles in video games, my life will have been better,"
Immediately, I begin to get an idea slowly at the back of my mind. Well, probably at the end of the day, storming a castle was all I needed to be able to get out of my blank brain.
Retuning back to the kitchen where my mother was actually preparing something delicious, yes I can perceive that from the aroma coming out. The whole house was filled with the aroma of fried plantain and stew. What an amazing combination for me.
"Mother, I will be right back," I said and hoping she will not pounce back on me with words again.
She looked at me with this frightening eye. "Going out? In this heavy rain? Ade where are you going?"
"Mother, I actually need to get my head clear,' it will be a short walk as that will allow me to get my article done faster".
"Well, if you say so, sha don't take long. Remember your father will be back any time from now and I don't want to hear stories."
Stepping out of the house into the rain, I immediately felt the world of possibility. The cool rain create a calming effect on me and as I work down, my mind begin to get engaged not until I found myself starring in front of an old abandoned house along our street.
It has actually been there for years as I can remember. I remember then, the neighbourhood kids dare each other to run to the door, knock on it there times and ran back. Well we actually call it "The Castle." Well, no one then has the audacity to storm into it.
Years back, here I am, standing right in front of it. Looking around, I can actually smell the earth filling the abandoned house. Well I took this bravery step to walk towards the house. Not knowing actually what I was expecting, probably it can be something adventurous or something frightening As I reached the front door.
Knocking three times and hearing nothing. No response, no ghost, only the sound of rain and the the feeling of life in the neighborhood that was behind me.
I was expecting something quite silly and unexpected to happen but well, not at all. Was still standing in the rain and with a bit of disappointment still within as I was laughing at myself.
At the end, it was not the adventure I imagine but quite enough for me. Deep within me, it was probably enough to give me some inspiration to get the articles work done.
Returning back to the house, my mother was still in the kitchen while My little sister Tope was fast asleep even though the game was still running.
"Ade, do you eventually storm the castle?" My Mother asked instantly.
"Well Mother, I did and I actually think it really worked."
I think we have been in that situation where we are trying to write but nothing just comes to our mind. Glad you later got inspiration from the little walk outside ans the rain.
Inspiration rain I call it.
Walking outside does work for finding inspiration. It would be a relaxing experience to enjoy the scenery.
It does work for me sometimes, and it's fun.
Sometimes we look for inspiration and get none, this is quite a relatable story.
Interesting. Sometimes, all we need is something to inspireor motivate us. The art of writing is definitely not an easy task.
Yes indeed, if only inspiration was as easy as storming a castle in game😁, nice way of integrating a writers struggle in the story.
