Hello @grindan,

There are all kinds of oppression. There is the oppression Charlie suffers because she cannot escape Brett's world view. There is Brett's oppression because he is locked in a box that blinds him to the beauty in life. It is a measure of your talent that we can understand Charlie's impatience, and at the same time feel sympathy for Brett. Charlie is a prisoner for 8 hours. Brett's sentence may be for a lifetime.

Good writing:)

I appreciate that @agmoore 😁

I like writing uncomfortable characters like Brett, because sometimes in fiction we give grace to those we wouldn't in real life. And of course, sometimes we just hate them with everything we've got haha! I think both are good therapies to work through the complicated feeling we experience in real life! I really enjoyed hearing your takeaway, thank you for commenting!

This is the reason to read authors with insight. It may open our eyes to an issue that might just be below our radar. We all know Brett. Brett exists everywhere. Now perhaps a few of us who read your story might make a little more room for Brett in our lives.

You inspired me to write something about what you said here @agmoore! Is it okay if I quote your comment?
