Beyond the All
The All, that's what we call this world, and outside of it, the Nothing. It has always been this way and always will be. Nok and Zil argued heatedly, as had become customary in recent weeks since Zil had taken to defending against every comment and questioning the Order. Their tentacles moved restlessly through the dark All, making Nok nervous, who was already tired of his invented philosophies.
The bioluminescence of the cave seemed dimmer than ever, and the All denser, almost solid.
"Something superior must exist, something beyond us," said Zil.
Nok could only roll four of his eyes while the others remained fixed on his friend.
"Stop speaking blasphemies against the Order, Zil. If they discover you, I won't do anything to protect you," Nok replied.
Since university, Nok had been a faithful believer in the Order, while Zil only criticized skepticism and sought any moment to discuss his theories. Over time, the only person who tolerated or dared to listen to him was Nok. But, of course, such a long friendship wouldn't be ruined by some philosophical disagreements.
"Look, Zil," Nok said, "understand this once and for all: this is the All, and beyond the surface is the Nothing. It's simple to understand: All and Nothing, and we have to follow the Order."
Zil lowered his head and only said, "I don't believe we're here just for this. There has to be something in the Nothing. Someone had to put us in the All. There's something we're missing, Nok."
Suddenly, the bioluminescence of the cave began to flicker. Nok knew his friend would never change his mind, and the idea of the plans running through his head terrified him.
"It's against the Order. The Nothing is a forbidden place, Zil. If you go there, you won't be able to return."
"At least accompany me to the limit, Nok," said Zil.
"You're my best friend. I don't want to lose you, but I also don't want you to be unhappy here. I'll accompany you and watch you disappear with all the pain and pride I can."
Both friends, Nok and Zil, began their announced journey, accompanied only by an absolute silence between them, until they reached the limit. Their tentacles intertwined in a farewell, and Zil began to advance. The limit, that perfectly straight line that divides All and Nothing, was closer than ever. Suddenly, something unexpected happened. Nok could only watch in terror as a large tentacle emerged from that line, ending in five more tentacles, grabbing his friend.
Three months have passed since Zil left. The bioluminescence of the cave is dimmer than ever. Nok can only look toward the Nothing. He is sure that Zil is out there with that creature and is determined to go find him.

Si vas allá, no podrás regresar.
