Snug as a bug in a rug | The Ink Well

in The Ink Welllast month (edited)

Hello writers,🤗
I bought a new real life story. Here it is:

I went up the driveway winding to the farmhouse of my grandparents, unable to help a sense of relief and excitement rising in me; the fierce storm brewing outside did not make those two hours since I left from the city anymore enjoyable, so I was indeed relieved to find this sheltered haven where my grandparents could soothe my anxious heart.

As I entered the house, it was enveloped in the aromatic warmth of fresh-baked cookies and the glowing softness of the fireplace. My grandmother, Nana, was busy preparing a batch of her famous chocolate chip cookies; my grandfather, Pappy, was sitting in his favorite armchair, reading.

"Hey, kiddo!" Nana exclaimed, wiping flour-covered hands across her apron as she crossed the room to give me a warm hug. "We're so glad you made it in safely. The storm is supposed to be a doozy tonight."

I smiled, grateful for the warmth of the welcome. "Thanks, Nana. I'm glad to be here. It's always so cozy and peaceful at your house."

Pappy looked up from his book, a grin breaking over his face. "That's what we like to hear, kiddo. Now, how about a cookie and a glass of cold milk to warm you up?"

As I sat down at the kitchen table, Nana handed me a still-warm cookie and a glass of milk. I took a bite of the cookie and closed my eyes, savoring the sweet, chewy texture. It was the perfect comfort food after a long drive on a stormy night.

The storm continued on its way while we sat, crunching on cookies and making small talk, all serene within but loud and angry outside as the wind blew, raining heavily on the windows.

After a while, Nana moved us to the living room as it was much cozier in there. Pappy made some fire and set up the sofa with blankets around us. And I was nice and snug in my rug just like a bug, with love and warmth being all around me inside my grandparents' home.

We spent the night chatting and laughing and watching the storm rage on outside the windows. Once, the lights flickered and went out, but Pappy just smiled and lit some candles and said, "We've been through plenty of storms before. We'll be just fine."

Hours went by and my eyelids grew heavy. Nana saw that and smiled. "Time for bed, kiddo. You've had a long day."

I nodded my head, happy to be tucked away in this warm and cozy haven of a home by my grandparents. Feeling snug as a bug in a rug, surrounded by the love and comfort of my family, I drifted off to sleep.

The storm outside raged on, but all was calm and peaceful inside. I knew I was safe and loved, and that was all that mattered. I fell asleep with a smile, knowing I would always treasure this cozy night at my grandparents' farmhouse, surrounded by the warmth and love of my family.

So this is all. I hope you will read and like it.
Stay safe
Goodbye🤗
