Mr Salako was a civil servant, a man of two wives and twelve(12) kids. His first wife was a trader, who sells vegetables in the market, and she had seven kids for Mr Salako. And his second wife was a local school teacher, who teaches those children whose parents doesn't have enough money to take them to a proper school, so they bring #50( Nigerian currency) everyday to learn for 4 hours. And she had five kids for Mr Salako. He struggled to give all his kids the kind of education he desires. Among his twelve children, only five of them were in a proper school. The rest of the children were always at home, roaming around the community and some of them even constitute nuisance in the neighborhood.
When there's chaos in the neighborhood, the first people they think of is Mr Salako's children. Whether they're involved or not, they were often accused of all the misdeeds in that neighborhood because they were always around. And these were mostly the first wife's kids. Only one among her kids were in school, while four of the second wife's kids were in school because she understood the importance of education and she home schools the last child at home. She doesn't really love the first wife's kids because of rivalry, so she doesnt allow them in her private classes. Mr Salako wishes that all his children were in school but he was drowning in debt so he couldnt afford to send other children to school.
It was the Eve of new year, and there was jubilation everywhere, people were already congratulating themselves for seeing the last day of the Year.Mr Salako decided to celebrate the eve with his two wives, so he sent his eldest son name 'Gbenga' to get a bottle of Palm wine from the next street. While waiting for his son, they heard a knock on the door, it was the neighbors. "Mr Salako, your son was areested together with some boys on the street" said the neighbors. Mr Salako and the wives jumped up and ran to the station to ask what the issue was. The police told them that there was a robbery attack that took place few days ago in a street a bit far from theirs and they suspect Mr Salako's sons because they were the familiar faces people could easily point at. Mr Salako turned to Gbenga and asked "what do you know about this accusation" with tears rolling down the boy's eyes, he said "I am innocent dad, its because i am always around the house that's why people point accusing fingers at me all the time"...Mr Salako and Gbenga's mother cried so bitterly that night. With intervention and thorough investigation of the senior police officers, Gbenga was granted bail that night.
Mr Salako called his wives that same night on getting home and told them "Enough is Enough, we must make a New year resolution together this night". He told them he wants to make sure by January all his children should be in school.Mr Salako's second wife promised to get a proper job in a well established school where she can register her kids and pay their bills with her income to support her husband and also reminded Mr Salako of her elder brother who lives in the city with his wife, who had requested that two of her children should come live with them and she knew they were very capable of sending them to school. So the two sons went to the city the next morning. Mr Salako's younger sister also came and took one of his daughters to come live with her and go to school. The senior wife also contributed by giving Mr Salako her savings to add to whatever he had just to make sure the remaining kids go to school.
Mr Salako realised that making a new year resolution in the beginning of a new year helps someone achieves even what you might think you cant achieve. Situations brought him to making a decision that changed the lives of his children.

It was a good thing they brought the rivalry to an end and worked together to help the children irrespective of who had them. Nice write up.
Thank you
