I am from a polygamous home and my mother had three kids for my dad. My parents got divorced before i became two years. We grew up asking questions about our dad and my mom has never been scared to tell us the story behind their divorce. We eventually reconciled with our dad after thirteen years. I guess my mom was not his favorite among the women he married because of the way we weren't cared for by my dad. I was the last born of my mom, had two brother before me.
My story today will be about 'Abiodun'. Abiodun is my brother , my mother's second born and also the least favorite of my father. After we reconciled with our dad, my mom told him to take over our educational responsiblity. He accepted on a condition that we should go to his village. My mom agreed so she left Abiodun and i to follow him as my eldest brother refused to follow him. We settled in the village the first night we got there, and on the second day, i was sent to a private school and Abiodun was sent to a public school. Abiodun didnt like it but my father pays less attention to him so he didnt have a choice .
After few years Abiodun graduated before me and asked that he should be sent back to the city since he was done with school but my dad told him to live in the village with our uncles and aunties. After a year i also graduated and my father asked me to come to the city immediately. I wondered why he didnt like Abiodun. I cried and begged my step mom to allow my brother come to the city. After some months he accepted but didnt let Abiodun stay in the same apartment as myself and my step-siblings, he stayed in the boys quarters. I wasnt treated well as well, i wanted to be with my brother .
After two years i ran away from my dad's house to live with my mom and Abiodun was left behind. He was maltreated to the extent that he decided to leave the house as well. So he wanted to leave in a way that he wouldnt be seen because he knew he wouldn't be allowed to leave voluntarily. Since he already learnt how to drive in the village, he decided to leave with his luggage in my dad's car on a sunday service so that he wouldn't be noticed and before the close of the service , he would have returned the car and walked out of the church with everybody without being noticed. My dad's house was very close to the church by the way.
Before he could return the car, someone already whispered to my step mom that my brother had stollen her husband's car. So my dad came from the church and gave instruction to everyone around that they should find Abiodun and beat him up for he had stollen a car. So Abiodun's friend, called Abiodin and told him what they had planned .Abiodun became scared and couldnt return the car home, so he decided to keep moving the car till he's far out of that area. But little did he know that he had been reported to the police that he was an armed robber who was adopted and he had stollen a car. Abiodun told the police the truth but they didnt believe him. He was beaten mercilessly that he regretted being born to such a father.
Myself and my mom went to the police station to pay for his bail. On getting to the station, we couldn't recognise him. His face was swollen from the beating that he couldnt even talk. My mom wept. I called my dad to please tell the police to grant us his bail on their initial disapproval to grant him bail. And he told me over the phone that he never want to have anything to do with us again. He disown my brother and I instantly. We went our way and decided to become great in life . I finished my school and im doing well now.Abiodun is currently living a very comfortable life abroad now.He became a medical doctor.
My dad called after many years, when he saw our picture online. He asked for forgiveness, and just as you know 'To err is human and to forgive is divine'.We forgave him and right now Abiodun is his best child because he's our bread winner. He's the only child he has who gives him monthly allowance for his upkeep. So you see, It just a matter of TIME...a child will definitely grow to become an adult.
