A pennyless philanthropist

Oga Sanni, a generous and highly spirited man, is the CEO of the company I work under. His fame regarding his free giving, spread among his employees who are committed to the work the company demands from them. Oga Sanni's generosity extends to giving his workers three modules of rice, three modules of beans, and a sack of millet sometimes (the reason we are yet to discover) at the end of each month instead of the monthly salary we are to receive. Oga Sanni, coupled with his company, has a big farm in which he grows diverse crops.

It has been twelve months counting now, ever since the company was established, that we have never received the salaries we ought to, which have been replaced by free-will gifts from Oga Sanni. You would think that, with all the profits, gains, and revenue the company has gotten so far, Oga Sanni probably has in his collection diverse estates, promising and profiting investments. However, the reverse is the case. Oga Sanni is a devout strong moralist who shuns any form of cheating or siphoning of funds, these facts about him are known by his family, friends, and employees.

The only thing our generous boss has to his name is a Peuget 504 car, and he lives in a 2-bedroom house with his wife and four children. In fact, on one occasion, his wife came to plead with us (the company's employees) to advise Oga Sanni to invest his earnings in real estate or probably buy a stock, since he listened to no one among friends and family, maybe he will take that of his employees, or at the very least own a house so he and his family will move out of the rented apartment they have been living since about fourteen years, I mean that was the height of it. What he does with the earnings, how we have not gotten any salary saved from the free will items baffled us to the extent that it kept us in great wonder as to what a man like that could be using his great profits and earnings for.

However, on one fateful day, which happened to be the month's end with the hope of the usual tribute Oga Sanni offers to his employees (three modules of rice and beans and maybe corn this time ), the veil that had been clouding our minds and keeping us in wonder removed and light was shed on the mysterious reason of the penniless state of Oga Sanni. I had decided to go to the neighboring street to get some items on credit from one of my able customers. Passing by, I saw someone who had a striking resemblance to my boss at work, playing a lotto bet in an open shop and so much immersed in the game. I moved closer to greet who was supposed not to be my boss, just to be sure, alas! He was my Oga Sanni, he responded to my greetings and said that he was just there to get in multiple what he had earned so he would be able to pay us what he owed us even with interest. Well, I prayed for him that day that he would rank first and receive in multiple, believing he would do as he promised, and I left the place. The next day, Oga Sanni called me into his office privately and told me not to tell anyone about the event that happened the previous day. I then asked him if he won, he said he didn't, that he took the second position which implied that there was no salary for the month, talk less of the arrears he promised.

So disappointed, I proceeded to tell the employees who were busy munching on the boiled corn that was shared already, how I met Oga Sanni at the gambling parlor, which prompted intense investigation on whether it was by chance I saw Oga Sanni at such a place. It was found out that gambling happens to be the vulnerability of Oga Sanni- his well-known Kryptonite. Every time he gets the earnings and profits, he bids all in a bet and within 48 hours he becomes penniless. After this, he goes home to his family pleading and making empty promises to change and be more meticulous in his spending to do right by his family and employees. As I mentioned earlier, they were all empty promises. Oga Sanni's company was later shut down three months after employees resigned massively upon the issue of no wage for their service. Fast-forward to 5 years later, it is discovered that Oga Sanni's kryptonite stuck to him like a bug, because he never stopped gambling, his wife and four children left him to his fate. I still can't help but laugh anytime I remember Oga Sanni, his free will gifts, and his lifetime weakness, gambling.

It's not the best to venture all your money into betting. Betting can kill careers and one's future. Not being able to pay you a guy's salary does not mean he does not have the money, but he has been eaten deep by betting.

It is because Oga Sanni is really adapt to the game which makes him to loss interest in investing. It's just a pity for him to be a pennyless philanthropist.
