The Market Rumor.

in The Ink Well8 days ago

I didn’t know why every girl in Lagos likes to buy their fashion items at the popular Eko market when they can get it at their environment for almost the same price. Well, maybe they just want to explore by going to the market or there is something I am missing.

“These items are very fine but I bought this particular bag two weeks ago which means I jumped on the trend before you,” I can’t lie about the fact that I loved all the accessories Mirabel bought and they were all of good quality.

“I’ve told you several times to save your money and when Fortune and I are going to Eko market, you’ll tag along,” I still do not believe how my friends will buy the same thing I bought at five thousand Naira for three thousand Naira. That’s a huge difference and I’m not someone who buys just one accessory. I always want to make sure that I buy ten or more.

Everyday, I get jealous of my friends accessories and I’m always left thinking about how I buy mine in the biggest store around us at a higher price but when my friends buy, it will be at a lower price and a cheaper amount. I was waiting hopefully for one day when my friends will be ready to go to the market again.

Luckily, Mirabel and Fortune had a party to attend and that was an opportunity for me to witness the rumor all the Lagos girls talk about.
It felt like Christmas day, I didn’t sleep well because my friends had warned me to wake up very early.

“The best time to go to Eko market is very early in the morning so you can get items at cheaper price and there will be less crowd and the seller will be able to focus on us,” Mirabel’s words kept ringing in my ear and that’s why I didn’t sleep well so I can wake up early on the next day.

Mirabel held my right hand while Fortune held my left at the market and I started feeling like a baby.

“I thought you said the market is always crowded in the afternoon but why is it this crowded in the morning?,” I wondered what the market will look like in the afternoon if it looks this crowded in the morning. My friends just laughed at me meaning I haven’t seen the true colors of the market.

“Why are you girls holding my hands?,” I asked because my legs were very fit to walk and my eyes were sharp enough to see them so I don’t get lost.

“You see how crowded this place is and we would not want to miss ourselves,” truly, the market was too full and choked with so many corners where one can pass and if anyone doesn’t know their way, they are most likely to get lost.

After five walk minutes, we entered the Mandillas store, the biggest store in Eko market for Jean materials and slippers.

“Oga, how much is this,” Mirabel wore the slippers to check if her leg fits in it.

“It’s not expensive. It’s just ten thousand naira,” I was still baffled with how cheap the slippers was when Mirabel and Fortune screamed, Ye!!!!.
I didn’t want to talk because the slippers to me was cheap and sold for a very good price and that’s the kind of slippers I was going to get for fifteen thousand Naira at the regular store where I shop for my accessories.

“I’ll pay only five thousand Naira for this,” I thought the seller wanted to return the slippers back into the rack but I saw him pack the slippers. Mirabel literally deducted about fifty percent of the actual price and the seller agreed without any hesitation. That was astonishing.

We went to other stalls and the exact bag I bought for twenty thousand naira was sold for fifteen thousand Naira at the market and they were of the same quality. Now, I confirmed that the rumors were true and that’s why most girls in Lagos including the ones who resell likes to shop at the popular Eko market.

I was thankful to my friends, Mirabel and Fortune for telling and warning me about where I shop for my items until I chose to listen to them which actually ended well. I was as well glad that I made the effort of going with them to experience what and where most girls in Lagos shop for their accessories.
