There was no other news in Nigeria aside from that of Naira Marley, a popular Nigerian artiste. It’s either he is dancing crazily on stage or he has done something wrong to the Nigerian government.
I woke up that morning to check my social media accounts as usual.
I logged into my X account because I was a Twitter freak then and I saw the headline “Nigerian artiste, Naira Marley mistakenly for a Nigerian minister, Babatunde Fashola”.
“Big sis, come and see. What kind of headline is this and how will Naira Marley be mistaken for a minister? They don’t even have anything in common” I called my sis to inform her about what I had just seen online. I turned on the television to watch my favorite music channel while surfing the net to know how the mix up had happened.
Immediately I put the television on, they were talking about the same news. I guess all television stations suspended all their activities to inform us about the fraud that had just happened.
“It was said that the Nigerian artiste, Naira Marley booked a flight from Lagos state to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja with the name Babatunde Fashola,” the newscaster said but the only Fashola I know used to be a governor and now a minister so how come he used the name of a governor?
I searched for his name online and he bears almost the same name with the minister with only the middle different which is “Raji”.
So I guess the airline operators mistook Naira Marley for the minister and he was given a free flight as one of the Nigerian house of representative members. He wasn’t just given a free flight, he was given a full load of convoy which will escort him to his destination in Abuja. That wasn’t just it. His crew members were also offered a free flight since the person traveling is a supposed minister.
Surprisingly, the real “Babatunde Fashola” got to the airport and it was reported that the minister had already gone for his trip earlier. Even while they saw that he hadn’t gone for the trip, since it was in his report that he had gone for the trip, they felt he had.
Then, the gist started getting serious. I’m not the type who loves to watch news stations but seeing this, I really wanted to see and hear everything to know if there really was a mix up or Naira Marley forged the name so he could be given the free flight and also the treatment that a Nigerian legislative member deserves.
Sadly, Mr Babatunde Fashola, the real house of representative member was denied his flight to Abuja stating that he had been on the flight before. That’s how the whole of Nigeria started to look for Naira Marley.
“Where is Naira Marley?” this is the headline you’ll find everywhere because everyone expected him to come outside to talk about what had just happened. Was it truly a mix up or things went according to his plan? As for me, I felt it was his plan even while I was following up with the news because everyone knows what Naira Marley is capable of doing.
“Naira Marley is a fraud. I think he planned it. We all know how he can be,” my dad said but I never believed. Well, he has a point because Naira Marley is known to be a very dubious artiste but I’ve never had a close contact with him so I can’t say what I don’t know.
“Hello everyone, my name is Naira Marley and I want to speak concerning the allegations again me. My name is Babatunde Adeshina Fashola and I booked the flight with my real name so I don’t know how the mix up happened but I was given a good treatment and I felt it was nothing to worry about as one of the biggest Nigerian celebrities so seeing this keeps me wondering if I have done any wrong by using my name as a flight passenger,” seeing Naira Marley come out made everywhere calm because he has already come to clear the air.
At last, the Nigerian artiste, Naira Marley was asked to foot the bill which he did alongside his crew members who flew to Abuja with him.
He also apologized to Babatunde Fashola, the minister for the mix up that had just happened.
As far as I know, this is the greatest name mix up ever since I’ve been in the online world.
This is rather funny! But I'm not surprised knowing how incompetent Nigerians can be. Who checked him in? How could a former governor and a minister carry dreadlocks? How could they have compared in resemblance even if they bore similarities in their names.
A very costly mix-up I must say!
