The Three Weeks Timeframe.

The Nigerian Immigration Office, Lagos state branch is packed by so many people who are registering for their international passport.
“Is there a carnival going on here?,” Thompson and Jamiu passes by the office while getting back from work. Thompson is quite inquisitive so he asks Jamiu.

“Nothing much but I heard that there is a fifty percent discount for anyone who will be registering a new or renewing their international passport from today till tomorrow,” Jamiu who doesn’t take life too serious says uninterestedly.

“Why are we now here? This is an opportunity for us to get our international passport at a discounted price and we can afford that at the moment. In the next two months, it will be out,” Thompson whose friends also call “the opportunity guy” heads to the queue after he sees the look on Jamiu’s face and for real, Jamiu seem not to have any interest.

“Does he even think the queue will get to him even if he waits there till tomorrow? Can’t he see how packed the place is?” Jamiu speaks to himself and heads to the house because he knows Thompson will never leave there if he doesn’t achieve his aim.

Thompson bangs the door “Guy, open the door,” he yells.

Jamiu who is fast asleep wakes up with his heart beating fast because of the rate at which Thompson is banging the door. Furiously, he opens the door.

“Didn’t you check the time? Why are you coming home by 11:27 pm?,” Jamiu’s anger doubles after Thompson laughs at him instead of giving him a response.

“I did it! I’ve successfully registered for the passport,” Jamiu hisses and goes back to bed. Maybe Thompson forgets that Jamiu rarely gets interested in anything. If not, he wouldn’t have told Jamiu. When Jamiu wakes up on the next day, they become good friends again.

After two months, Thompson gets his international passport. For the second time, there will be a discounted price of international passport so this is the best time for Jamiu to get his but his nonchalant attitude takes over him all the time. Jamiu never wants to go through such stress or take that opportunity.

“Hello T&J events, we will be having a live concert of three thousand capacity in South Africa. We will need you to run a budget and get back to us as soon as possible,” Jamiu couldn’t believe his eyes. He opens the bathroom door even though he’s aware that Thompson was having his bath. Thompson’s eyes glimmers to read the message.

“We’re going to South Africa,” he jumps out of the bathroom and sits on the bed with the soap bubbles on his body.
Jamiu also is very happy that their event planning program is going viral but for that moment forgets that he doesn’t have the international passport which will allow him travel to places.
After the quotation has been sealed and it’s almost time to travel to South Africa, Jamiu begins to process his International passport.
“If I spend money through connections, I should be able get the passport in three weeks and in the fourth week, we will travel together,” Jamiu says but Thompson knows that it isn’t possible. The minimum timeframe for getting an international passport in Nigeria is two months so what magic would his friend perform?

Jamiu no longer goes to work. He goes to the immigration office everyday and tips the officers so his passport can be released in two weeks. Days went by and Jamiu keeps getting frustrated about two things. He’s frustrated because he hasn’t gotten the passport and because the South African client has been calling to know when they will get to the country.

“Guy, I think I should go first and if your passport is released, you can come join me over there. Anything can happen in the space of one week,” Jamiu agrees to what Thompson says but feels very bad that his friend will be leaving him behind.
Days went by so fast and it was the event day already. Jamiu tune his TV to Lebrace Channel where he will be watching the concert that he and his friend, Thompson planned and organized.

Tearls rolled down his eyes for missing that big opportunity of traveling outside Nigeria, meeting big people of the entertainment industry and having a proof that he’s one of those who made the event a success.
Jamiu felt bad and tries to always take any little opportunity seriously since then. Thompson got three more international jobs even before Jamiu got his international passport but Jamiu was able to meet up with Thompson again and he took more opportunities just like Thompson did.

I think this story is for me. Several times now I have been asked to go get my international passport done but I always feel uninterested. I should get it this year so I don't end up crying like Jamiu.

Hehe
It’s like this post is a warning to us all

We have people like Jamiu who remain nonchalant about preparing for opportunities which made him subjected to inconveniencing tips and processes.
Getting international passport used to be a Herculean task.
Jamiu definitely learned his lesson to stay prepared and prevent himself from running against time.

Yes ooh so if you haven’t done yours, don’t forget to do so

I've done mine

Thank you

It was a pity that Jamiu I couldn't travel to the event, he learned a lesson at that time and knew how to take advantage of the opportunities after that.

Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Excellent day.

It is really painful and I’m sure he felt bad…

I could feel Jamiu's frustration. Missed opportunities could be really painful, but I'm happy he learned from his mistake and did the right thing.

It’s really painful
I’m like Jamiu now cos I haven’t done my passport too

Well, you should go do it o. 😅

Like it is said, opportunity comes, but once. But is it really once though, just asking?
