Toke never thought she would see her husband, Leke anymore. It’s been over ten years since Leke left Nigeria to the United Kingdom but he has never stepped into Nigeria ever since he traveled.
“I don’t buy the idea of immigration especially without your partner. That’s how Leke has left me here with our two kids in Nigeria since and hasn’t looked back,” Toke never stopped saying this especially when she finds herself in a place where people are talking about immigration.
It’s never like Leke doesn’t want to come back to Nigeria but he finds it hard to settle down in the United Kingdom nor doesn’t want to bring his family here but he’s finding it hard to gain his stance and this make the couple quarrel almost everyday whenever they are having a conversation.
“Hey baby. I have a surprise for you. I just got a new job which is paying me five times better than my previous job. This is actually a good news but not the actual surprise,” just after Leke received a mail from his new workplace, he texted his wife, Toke first.
He took to his room to bring out a pen and paper which he used to calculate how much he will earn in the next eight months and if he will be able to travel to Nigeria or bring his entire family into the United Kingdom.
Toke, who’s not expecting anything positive from Leke opens the message without reading it and hisses.
“He’s never coming back to Nigeria and never wants to see his kids and I again so why is he texting me,” she said. After ignoring Leke’s incessant calls and texts for three good months, Leke then sent her a bouquet with a loaf of bread.
“What rubbish is this? He sent me a loaf of bread after we had a long fight? What sort of a man is this?” she immediately flinged the bread out of the house and she saw three green books in the bread.
She ran towards the bread to see what those books were. Toke couldn’t believe her eyes. They were Nigerian International passports.
That wasn’t all but she also saw three tickets to London, one for her and two for their kids including a letter from her husband.
Dear wifey, I know I haven’t been the best husband because I have failed to prove myself as a man but now, I have gotten a well paying job that gives me the opportunity to bring you and our kids to the United Kingdom. It’s almost spring season abd this is the surprise I have for you. Can’t wait to spend spring season with you, she read.
“Arghhh, kids, we’re going to meet daddy,” she still didn’t believe what she read. She put on her phone and had a video call session with Leke, her husband. It was true. The surprise is that she will be traveling to the United Kingdom to see her husband.
The Ghana-must-go bag is what she packed her luggaes in. Everyday she steps out, she buys whatever they’ll be needing in the United Kingdom. She couldn’t sleep nor her two kids. They started dreaming of seeing themselves in the United Kingdom.
“I’m finally going to the United Kingdom to meet her husband,” she tells her friend, Mama Ayo but no one believed her. How will she go to meet the man who has abandoned her in Nigeria for over ten years? It was unbelievable so no one took her seriously.
“He’s lying to you. I don’t believe him. That man has abandoned you and your kids for ten years and you still have so much believe in him?,” this was their thoughts until that evening when Toke ordered a ride which took her kids to the airport. While passing Mama Ayo’s shop, she and her kids wave their hands at her.
Immediately Toke and her kids got to Gatwick airport in London, the warmth of the spring season welcomed her and the kids.
“Daddy!!!!”the kids screamed and they all rushed to hug their father.
Toke burst into tears because she never thought she would see her husband again so it became tears pf joy. He welcomed them and took them all to the house.
The blooming of flowers welcomed them immediately they got home.
“Is this the spring surprise you have for us?,” Toke asked her husband and they all embraced each other. The family were able to unite again after ten years snd they all continued to live in the United Kingdom till forever.
He had gone to make it out there. although communication is important in relationships.
He has tried to make it happen to send them a ticket to meet up with him. It would have been a blue sky the very day they met in London.
It must really be a blue sky…
