Fine from far, but far from fine

Have you ever admired a design, cloth artwork or even a person’s shape or face from a distance but while you walk closer, you discover that it was all a piece of trash and that there was nothing to admire. Yes, the devil is in the details and once the details are ignored, one might end up facing the wroth of it. Here is my experience and entry for the creative nonfiction prompt #66.

It was on a Friday, the 30th of December 2022, we were preparing for New Year, everywhere looked busy and filled with live, shops were stocked up as usual for festive market. I had just arrived from school some days ago and had visited some friends of mine that I hadn’t seen for a long time.

On this fateful Friday, I decided to visit Ade at his Uncle’s mini boutique. I got to know Ade a year before, the first time I stepped into the boutique to get a trouser. While I was searching for the once that suits me best, I discovered that they had shoes that sized me. As a big footed person that I am, I barely had shoes because it was difficult to get my size and most times I get to build my palm wears. Aside the fact that I saw various shoes that I could buy, I also notices Ade’s sense of humor, this prompted me to collect his number and we became friends.

Back to December 30, 2022. On getting to the boutique, Ade and I exchanged pleasantries and spoke for a while then he proposed,*Boss I get one nice shoe o, and na your size. Oh wow, let me have a look at it, I replied. He brought out the nice looking Jordan shoe, I tested it and it fitted perfectly well. I felt so convenient in it that I fell in love with the shoe on the spot. I did not take a close look at it before I asked for the price, we bargained and I paid happily thinking that I would rock the shoe throughout 2023 and even for a longer period of time.

The first time I wore the shoe was on the crossover night. I got home the next day and discovered that the shoes sole has started to crack, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I took a closer look at the shoes and right I discovered that the Jordan on the shoe wasn’t even spelled correctly, I also noticed a slight difference in the logo. It was at that point I discovered that I had fallen to the traps of fake products, I could return it because I had already worn it but I made complains to Ade. Of cause there was nothing he could do about it, after all his uncle didn’t produce it, he only bought it to resell, although I was compensated.

By the time I wore the shoe for the third time, the soles were already totally damaged and the leather on the body had started to pill, I had to throw the she away. It didn’t only feel like I wasted money, I knew for sure that I had wasted money. I wouldn’t have if I had paid more attention to the details on the shoe, including the brand name, logo and the quality of materials used.

Ade felt bad for selling a bad product to me and compensated me by giving discount for the next goods I bought from him, and I made sure that I did a thorough check on the goods before paying to avoid touching stories.

This story addresses the prompt cleverly. The mistake you made is quite common and understandable. We all like a good buy, especially if the salesperson is a friend. We feel we can trust that material.

Your piece is well organized--beginning, middle and resolution. All in all a relatable piece. You might think in the future about editing a little more carefully. A few misspellings mar the overall effect.

We hope you will write for us again. You have in interesting perspective and communicate with readers well.

Good luck in Hive, and in this community.

Thank you for this tremendous remarks @theinkwell, I will do well to double check my contents before posting next time. It feels so good to be on board

I will make no such mistake again, I had to discard the shoe just one month after I bought it, a complete waste.

Welcome to Hive. This CNF piece works well. It is engaging and well organized. The phony label--we've all fallen for it.

Good luck on Hive and in the community.

Thank you for the time spent on my blog @amoore, some times I wonder why people try to create and replicate existing products instead of trying to create their own brand. If you are good at creating some similar, why not try to learn more, perfect your expertise, look for creative people and start your own brand. At the long run this will keep getting better
