A Ticking Bomb

Yuna sobbed in a corner of the kitchen all night, her parents had left her again as usual. What had she done to deserve this? she didn’t beg her parents to bring her into this world, so why couldn’t she get the love she truly deserved?

Yuna, an only child, grew up with poor and irresponsible parents—her parents would come home late after drinking and gambling all day, sometimes they wouldn’t come home for weeks. Yuna fended for herself in terms of food, education and a roof over her head, by taking on so many part-time jobs but as if all that wasn’t enough, her parents would send the people they owed to their daughter, so she could pay off their debts. Her parents always asked for forgiveness afterwards, promising to turn a new leaf but ended up acting worse—and sometimes they would blame her for ruining their lives. "If we hadn’t given birth to you, we would have enjoyed our lives to the fullest, We’re sorry to say this but you are a mistake!".

This was the life Yuna had known since she was twelve, smile had long faded from her face, she didn’t know what it meant to be happy, she was like a ticking bomb that could explode any moment. In grade 11, she decided to transfer schools so she could stay far away from her parents and the embarrassment they brought after putting up with them for so long, she had worked tirelessly over the holidays and saved up money but didn’t want her lousy parents to know of her plan.
That evening she quickly packed up her scanty clothes, on her way out she bumped into her parents, fear gripped her chest…"Where are you off to little one?" Her father asked, almost losing his balance due to his drunken state, "I want…" Yuna’s sentence was caught off by her drunken mother who was also losing balance. "I know they must have paid you from your part-time job, so get your father and I some food, we are starving." Her parents then staggered into the house, not noticing the bag their daughter hid behind her.
Immediately they entered into the house, Yuna ran faster than her legs could carry her without looking back for a second until she vanished out of sight. If only she had known that her running away was only the beginning of the torment that laid ahead.

She was able to get a tiny place to stay and a part-time job, she was also able to settle in before her new school resumed the following week. Yuna got to her new school, reported to the principal’s office filling all the necessary documents…"You mean you are an orphan and don’t have any relative?" The principal asked.
"Yes I’m an orphan, but I do have a relative who lives very far from here but sends me money always" Yuna said, looking away from the principal hoping he wouldn’t notice she was lying. After everything, she went to her new class and for the first time in years, she was able to breathe in freely without feeling suffocated.

"Hello, so are you the new girl who transferred to our school?" A group of three girls asked, standing beside Yuna’s desk.

Yuna answered hesitantly, "Yes I am".

The girls gave a menacing smile "Okay follow us, we have a little gift just to welcome you"

Yuna wasn’t comfortable anymore….what gift? And why would students gift me for being a new student? She thought to herself.

"Thank you but I do not want any gift"

"If you do not want to regret your existence, then you had better get up and follow us now!" One of the girls said and left.

Scared, Yuna decided to follow them and this was when she began experiencing the real hell—from that day forward, she was being bullied and threatened to be framed if she ever spoke out. They extorted money from her, treated her unfairly and mocked her, this left lingering scars on her. This went on until they all finished from high school, unbeknownst to them, Yuna had vowed to have her revenge.

Years later, the group of girls that had mistreated Yuna held high ranking positions in the society and became very influential. Regardless, Yuna was determined to bring them down at all costs. After planning meticulously and carefully, Yuna released a tape of their vulgar, hidden activities—the girls who had grown into ladies, were exposed as bullies directed at people they were more influential than and were caught red-handed in drug trafficking. They lost everything they had, one of girls who had already gotten married became a divorcee after her husband learned of her despicable acts, and they were sentenced to life imprisonment.
While Yuna’s parents had contracted an incurable disease, they were fighting for their lives with an outcome they were uncertain of.

Yuna looked up to the sky, she could finally be free from the life of hell, she could finally do things she was happy with, she finally lived a life of her dreams and above all….she finally found genuine love that made her life twinkle.

I'm so happy for Yuna, despite everything she had been through in life, she never backed down, but kept pushing.

Yes, she's a brave girl!
