The Delivery Package

in The Ink Well2 days ago

On this fateful day, I was sitting on my bed looking deeply into the paper I was holding firmly in my hand. I was so anxious, and, at the same time, nervous; you can definitely notice it in my heartbeat. I was wondering "Why will this happen? How can this happen?" These were the questions running through my mind.

Everything started around 5 days ago when my best friend Jide gave me a call.

"Tope, please can you quickly come and meet me at our usual junction" Jide told me through the phone call.

Ever since I have known Jide, he has always been this type of friend who always finds himself in one trouble to another. On several occasions, he has been named trouble seeker, but as the good friend I am, I still stand for and by him every time.

Rushing to the junction along our street to meet him and wondering what might have happened this time around that might have warranted his urgent call. Getting to the junction, I saw Jide beside a shop, sipping a bottle of Pepsi.

"Tope, thank you so much for coming". Jide welcomed me with that statement.

"Jide, what happened?" I asked because I was really anxious to know what might have happened this time.

"Tope my friend, I really need your help seriously. Actually, there is this one of my friends that wants to deliver something." Jide requested.

In desperation, I asked him. "What kind of thing?"

Jide handed over to me a package. "Tope, this is the package, please help me deliver it to the guy in your neighbourhood "

I should have actually doubted Jide's request. But Jide always has a way of convincing me anytime, especially when money is involved.

So the next day, I made sure I finished every one of my morning activities to deliver the package I collected from Jide for the guy. I was to meet that guy at the tarmac of our street by 6pm.

Heading to the tarmac where I will deliver the package, something happens.

I was just about to enter a taxi when two tall guys confronted me suddenly.

"Mr Man, stop! Come down from that taxi" they said as one of them was flaunting his ID card.

"Sir, what is wrong here," I asked in total curiosity, hoping to know what was going on.

"Mr Man, will you come down!" One of the guys shouted at me.

They pulled me by the left-hand side of the road and began to search me. They found the package in my pocket that I was heading to deliver to the guy.

In violence, they tear the package open. Opening the envelope that was in the package, they saw some papers or documents.

"What is this document and where do you get it? One of the officers asked me.

"It was my friend who gave me to deliver to someone, why all these questions"

"Who is that your friend? What is his name?" They asked me once again.

"Jide", I responded, and at this point, I was feeling embarrassed.

My heart sank. “Sir, wetin happen?”

"Mr Man, this paper with you right now is bank documents." They told me.

"Bank documents!!!" I was shocked.

"Yes, it is a kind of fraud document"

"Fraud document like how? There must be a mix-up somewhere," I responded, and at this point, I was getting afraid.

"Please I know nothing about this thing" I tried to clarify my stand on the issue.

"You will have to follow us to our station right now, Mr man", they told me.

I was taken to the station, where I faced serious questioning. After so much back and forth, they discovered I was innocent as I knew nothing about it. But there is actually something wrong, my name has been mixed up somewhere

“Sir, I do not know anything about this,” I said, my voice shaking.

They took me to the station. After hours of questioning, they finally let me go when they realised I truly didn’t know what was happening. But I knew my name was already mixed up in something bad.

Sort:

You should stay away from such friends who would think twice before putting you in trouble.

Ah
So the issue even led to the police station? And I know how the police stations here can be.
Please, make sure you move with the right people

I feel sorry for him, imagine trying to help a friend and you end up in trouble. His lucky that he didn't go to jail for what at he doesn't know

It was an intriguing dialogue-based story. I wanted to read more about it, probably figuring out what happened with fishy Jide.
