The Whispering Room

in The Ink Well20 days ago

If there was a day I knew our home felt fear strongly, it was the day my mother locked herself up in a room called the whispering room.

Even though I was still young then, if I can still remember, I think I am just around 11 years old but I can still remember vividly what happened that fateful day. There was a scream in our old bungalow and suddenly, the voice changed. Suddenly, we saw our mother hiding in the old storeroom locking the door behind her.

Well, we always call that particular room the whispering room because it seems every time, the strong wind always penetrates the room and creates this crack every single time. I and my fellow siblings have always been afraid of that room, but our mother has never feared that room. But that fateful day, it changed.

"Mother, what is wrong?" I asked her in anxiety and curiosity seeing that the door was locked and she was inside the storeroom.

"Ade, don't open that door; I can see him through the mirror", she responded.

At that particular time, I stood still in fear and trying to understand what she was saying. Who is staying in the room?

Well, a few hours later, the neighbours in our street met in our house. First, it was Aunty Bola trying to bring my mom out, but it was all to no avail. Even our landlord, Baba Tope was threatening to break down the door so that she could come out.

At that particular time, the incident happened, our father was far away from the house around Abuja for work purposes.

"Or probably your mother possessed," Aunty Bola said.

"Or it might be fear of some devilish things." She further reaffirmed.

On the second day, Our pastor was around. Of course, I knew my pastor; whenever he has to attend to issues like this that are perceived to be evil or devil involved, he always comes with his Anointing hand. Our pastor did everything he could do: he prayed, he sang, he even shouted. But even with that, the mother still refuses to come out.

"Pastor, what my mother told me is that there is someone in the mirror" I explained what my mother told me to the pastor.

"She also said the man is looking and watching her". I further go forward to give the pastor more details.

"Hmm, Ade, there are some fears that I have come to discover that are not really demons; they work in the form of past wounds" " our pastor responded to me.

Two days later, my father returned from his trip. He was briefed on what happened. Instantly, he took a crowbar from the store and broke the whispering room Door to go in.

Getting in, he carried our mother, carrying out mom in his arms. Her eyes were still open, but she was so tired.

"Did she see him?" my mom said?

"Who are you talking about?" My father asked my mkt.jef.

"That man that raped me when I was a little girl" my mother responded.

Everyone at home was silent. It became clear to us that apart from the fear that has crippled inside the head of my mother, she is also living in the past wounds, just like how my pastor said. Those wounds have come mirroring in her mind.

Oh that's true

I have actually forgotten

What should I do now

Should I edit it with another story
