Exams were coming up, and my friends and I had this habit of sharing days that we would study together without distraction. We will choose whose house we all will go to and study even before exams. My friends are Mide, Femi, Miracle, and Fortune. These are my closest pals in school.
We do study 2 months ahead before exams. Although it was a few weeks to the exam, we still feel like we have not prepared enough, and we are still trying to come up with more ideas on how to be able to meet up on what we've been taught.
One day, as we were studying, Mide came up with the idea that we should ask each other questions to know which chapter each person understood very well. That way, we will know where each of us where lacking behind.
Guys, I have an idea at least. I think this idea is good. It will help us to know more about how far we've studied; what do you guys think, Mide said.
I like the idea it's a good one but who do we start with, miracle asked looking at everyone's face
Are you asking who do we start with you know the obvious answer, Femi, said with a funny smirk on his face.
Does he have to be me? It can be anybody, or in fact, let's cast a vote. Whoever gets the highest, we start with the person, miracle said wimping
Fine, let's vote to find out, who will lead, if you're for fortune raise your hand, I said trying to calm the tension
Who will be taking the record, Femi said.
You should change the record, fortune said to him
After casting the votes, it fell on fortune to start, although it was done on purpose cause the lots fell on Miracle. Since she was already feeling bad that she was pointed. We started with fortune and we were looks making headways.
As the day of the exam drew near, tension was palpable; rumors were flying around about a particular subject that the lecturer had mentioned a particular chapter to be this area of concentration. We do not want to believe in it because some lecturers can be funny at times.
Instead of believing in the rumors we decided to study harder, instead of choosing days to study
we now do it every day of the week except Sunday. One day, while we were studying in the femi's house.
Fortune ran inside with a past question paper in her hand, jumping and jubilating.
You're late, and you're jubilating. I hope you came with good news, Mide said, glaring at her.
My darling your eyes cannot kill me so rest, fortune, say giggling
Please tell us the good news already you seen too happy, Femi said impatiently.
I overhead Professor Ben saying that because of the program that he has in his church he just going to give us his past questions, he won't have the time to write new ones and that his going to change the formation of our sitting during his exam, fortune, said almost whispering
Are you sure about this? I inquired. I always find it difficult with Professor Benz's course and I was afraid of failing his course.
Stop being scared you won't fail; anywhere you still don't understand, we can still go over it again, Miracle, said, tapping my shoulder as a form of reassurance.
You have nothing to be afraid of. You've been studying really hard, don't you believe that all our studying will pay off? Mide, who is the closest of all my friends, said, giving me a hug.
I think what we need to do now is a question and answer; that way, you won't have to be afraid. You know where you're failing, and we can actually sit up on that area; what do you guys think? That was Femi asking the rest of the group.
Anyway, I don't want us to rely on only the past questions fortune brought. I think we should keep on studying the whole chapter. I don't trust Professor Ben. That man can be very cunning. He might be saying it to know the people who are actually studying, Mide, said feeling uncomfortable about the whole idea.
Are you guys saying that I brought fake news, or what, make me understand it? Fortune said obviously very upset with Mide.
Fortune, you do not have to be angry with mide; remember a stitch in time saves nine; if you abandon how far we come, just to focus on what you heard from Professor Ben , you might regret it. I said, trying to reason with her, but it seemed her mind was made up. She stopped studying with us and joined another group.
On the day of the exam, it turns out that Professor Ben set another thing entirely different from what was on his past question. Fortune was struggling to write, I could see it as she was sitting close to me. I just helped her out, even when the group was against it. She actually learnt her lesson but not in a bitter way. We all ace the exam in flying colors.

Lecturers in my country can be cunny like that too; they would give wrong information to throw the student off course and see who will pass their exam.

I can't explain the feeling when you've studied with a past question thinking that all the answers will reappear only to see something entirely different.
Confusion and regret will be the order of the day for the person
I did experience this many times during my degree. A lecturer would give you material as area of concentration, and turn out to jettison it for another question. It's not nice anyway. I am glad they you were able to navigate through and pass the course.
