Madam Comfort, a wealthy entrepreneur and philanthropist, has always wished to walk her last daughter down the aisle before she passes on to the great beyond. Madam Comfort has heart disease, and all efforts have been put in place to find a cure for her, but to no avail; she has already succumbed to fate.
Although she still hopes that she will make it, on one of her check-up days, Dr. Francis suggested that she do a heart transplant; she refused; saying she is too old to bother her children right now.
Dr. Francis had to call her children to tell them his suggestion, but where to get the heart was the problem. Madam Comfort's children went in search of a heart donor. The first daughter, who resides in the United Kingdom with her husband, put out a search, and those with her in Nigeria are equally searching.
Two months had passed since the search started, and there was still no headway. Madam Comfort's last daughter was finally getting married. The wedding had been fixed to take place in the next 4 months, and Madam Comfort was the happiest that she would finally witness her last daughter getting married.
But tragedy struck; a few weeks after the announcement of her last daughter's marriage that was coming up, Madam Comfort had a relapse again, and a heart hadn't been found yet. Dr Francis tries to keep her stable for a while but warns the children that an urgent transplant needs to be done or they will lose their mother if another relapse hits her.
Finally, after a month of searching, a heart was found, but it did not match with their mother's own. They were so eager to find a heart donor that they forgot to ask questions about what and what is needed to get a match. Dr. Francis had to invite them and tell them what they have to consider when looking for a match for their mother, the blood type, organ size, and medical history, he went further to list other things for them
They have to start from the beginning again, but as fate will have it. They were lucky to find a match in the UK, and it will be transported back to Nigeria, as their mother recently had another relapse, and nobody knows what her fate will be now. They have just 3 days to do the transplant or they will lose their mother.

The cargo carrying the heart arrived in Nigeria on the third day by 5am, and they had only 16 hours to get it to the hospital; Jameson and the medical teams were already at the airport waiting for the flight to land. As soon it landed, they picked it up and headed straight to the hospital; on getting to the third mainland bridge, there was traffic.
Dr. Francis stared at the countdown timer on his watch: 15 hours, 60 minutes, and counting. He had to act fast to save the life of his patient. He was pacing up and down in the hospital, trying to reach them, but their number was saying the network was busy.
Looking at Madam Comfort lying still on her sick bed, looking lifeless you won't know she was once energetic and full of life. Jameson and the medical teams were racing against time, stuck in the traffic and not having an idea what they would do but just wait and pray that the traffic clear.
Dr Francis called them again after checking his time, and 3 hours had gone by. Finally, the pick and told him that they were stuck in traffic and gave their exact location, and it was just 20 minutes away from the hospital, just as he was about to cut the call. He was told that the ambulance had an issue now.
On hearing that Dr. Francis couldn't wait anymore, he sprang into action, racing against the clock to retrieve the heart. He took his power bike key and as he navigated through the crowded streets, dodging pedestrians and cars as he went. As he arrived at the location, he encountered another obstacle: his fuel was finished, and he needed to refill, but there was no filling station in front; with only 12 hours and 40 minutes left, Dr. Francis knew he had to think fast.
Suddenly, an idea struck; since the ambulance was faulty, he removed the fuel in it and pour into his power bike instead and raced off with the heart in the special box it was put in, he rushed back to the hospital and with the precious heart in hand. He burst into the Madam's comfort room, where the medical team was waiting anxiously.

Together, they started the surgery, and Madam Comfort's pulse was going down. As the countdown timer on the watch hit zero, the surgery was successful, and Madam Comfort was stable again. She was wheeled to ICU, and after about 6 hours, her eyes flickered open, and she smiled weakly at Dr. Francis, who had been watching her closely since after the operation. Dr. Francis breathed a sigh of relief, in this high-stakes race against the clock, every second counted, and Dr. Francis's quick thinking had saved Madam Comfort's life.
Three months after the surgery, she walked her daughter down the aisle. She was grateful to Dr. Francis for everything he did. If not for his timely intervention, nobody knows what would have happened

A tale that highlights the importance of time. A Stitch in time saves nine indeed. The protagonist was determined, and nothing was going to impede him.
Atleast his determination saved one really dear to him and that's all that mattered to him. Great story.
Thank you
This is an interesting and suspenseful story, @coolbabe88. Just note that it's important to do some research when including things like medical details. For example, organs must be transplanted immediately from one person to another. There is only about a four-hour window of time for an organ like a heart or lungs to be transplanted, so it wouldn't be possible for it to happen after three days, or for the heart to come from another country. 😊
A nice suspense filled story. I'm happy she got the transplant.
Thank you
Nice write up! Glad her dream of walking her daughter down the aisle eventually became reality.
Thank you
Nigerian traffic can kill someone; I'm glad Madam Comfort got her heart transplant done, and for the wedding, I believe that day was the happiest in her life. She was alive to witness the event she had been anticipating for a long.
Thank God for that
Nice concept and context with suspense illustrating the theme of determination and end in humourous tone.
Tragicomedy or so
