Kate sat down on the bed, her hands folded on her chest. This year has been a rough one for her.
It has been from one disappointment to another; she has finished school with flying colors and has been assisting her mother while searching for a job within the city.
No matter all her efforts, it just seemed like the heavens were against her. Her first interview was scheduled to hold at a hotel close to her but she ended up late for the interview.
So she lost the job out of her sluggishness; Kate stood up from her bed and walked down to her window.
Looking at the sky and watching kids play with firecrackers, the sound of bangers fills the air, but Kate's spirit and mind are far away from all the excitement. She dragged a stool close, trying to recount all her mistakes and what she would have done better this year.

She picked up her pen and paper, jotted down something, and started ticking out things that she was able to achieve and things she didn't. She sighed, there was lots of indecision in her life this year.
She had spent most of it stuck in limbo, unable to make decisions about her career, relationships, or even simple things like what to wear for interviews.
She was pacing up and down in her room; her indecision had become a pattern, one that had held her back from pursuing her dreams. Kate has always wanted to be a fashion designer, she doesn't know if it's fear or laziness. At this point, she felt like she was at a crossroads with multiple paths stretching out before her, but she was unable to choose which one to take.
She slumped on her bed, tears welling up in her face; she muttered to herself, "Kate, you wasted this year, look at all the opportunities that came your way, but you couldn't even grab one. She didn't know that she was loud.
And who said you missed all the opportunity her friend Chloe asked, walking into her room.
Kate jumped up from her bed, startled, "Come on, Chloe, you scared me; how long have you been standing there?
Oh, just a minute ago, was watching you talk to yourself Chloe replied.
You are welcome, but it's late at night; why are you here? Kate asked her.
Oh I came to tell you that it's time for service, so we can go together, don't tell me you are not going Chloe said
I can't go, Chloe, and am just tired; my mood is damned, Kate said, her voice barely audible.
What is the problem dear? Chloe enquired.
I think I have missed out on good opportunities just because of my indecision; look at my relationship life; nothing to show; my career is stuck at a place Kate said, finally crying.
Don't cry, my darling, you are not the only one that is stuck; I have been stuck too, Chloe told her, smiling.
Kate stares at her in surprise; what do you mean, please don't play with me. You are in catering school, you have a striving business
Things don't always appear as it's seem, I was equally stuck for 4 years, confused as to what I could do, but my dear, nothing seemed to be coming to my mind; I just flowed with time to this level that I am now Chloe said
So you are saying you didn't do anything special to get to where you are Kate raised her eyebrow.
Nothing special, just added a little effort to what I was doing finish, can we go to church now Chloe said
Alright, let's go, Kate and Chloe went to the crossover night service.
All throughout the service, Kate was absent-minded. She needed a change next year, and if she must succeed, she needed to have a strong resolution before the new year started; she didn't want her new year to look like the other years.
While the service was going on, Kate penned down her New Year resolution; she put down things she needed to work on about herself, friends she needed to stay away from, and steps to take in choosing her dress for an interview.
As they clock ticked 12am to welcome the new year. Kate has finally come up with ideas to conquer her indecision. As weeks went by, Kate started tackling small decisions like applying for a new job, registering for fashion school, dressing smart for interviews, and even making sure she got to the venue on time. She equally made away with toxic friendships and relations.

We all need those friends that when we talk to we get our heads straight
Dressing well in interviews is very important. The way they see you is the way they will address you and I’m happy that Kate is now a changed person🥰
Thank you
Your piece would have been read better had you edited it using Grammarly to identify mixed tenses and issues with grammar and punctuation. Please note that dialogue should always be within speech marks. It was challenging reading your dialogue as there were no clear indicators of when someone started speaking or stopped. Consider reading these articles in The Ink Well on how to add conflict to a story, how to develop memorable characters, and how to write dialogue in fiction.
