The unyielding fashionista

As a child, Muyi has always been fascinated by the world of fashion. She will spend hours watching entertainment TV; any station that is showing fashion, Muyi will be there. She has been studying patterns and design from her favorite fashion designer.

Many have tried to discourage her, saying that she can't make it. That is dog eat dog industry but Muyi wasn't paying attention to the negativity around her. She was determined to make it but one thing that bothers her is that the opportunity is not presenting itself to her.

One day, Muyi was thinking alone about how she could make it to become a fashion designer when her sister walked in and tapped her on the shoulder.

Muyi! Muyi, what are you thinking about, her sister Esosa asked.

Nothing to bother your mind about, she said.

"Mummy has been calling you" Esosa replied

What does she want? I am not just in the mood for any messages. She said lying down on the bed.

But you will be in the mood for food when it's ready her mother who just walked in without their notice replied

She quickly jumped down from her bed; Esosa tried to run out of the room but was stopped by their mother.

Muyi, what did you say happened to your mood that you don't want to answer me? Mrs Faith asked, glaring at Muyi.

Mom, I'm just having a headache, which is why I made that statement, but nothing much, Muyi started.

I hope it's not about this your fashion designer thing that you are here thinking about, Mrs Faith queried.

There was silence as Esosa looked at Muyi and then back to their mom; Muyi just sat still without saying a word. Their mother broke the silence.

Oh, I see it's what you are thinking; I have told you to look for another thing and focus your interest on it. You can't make it in fashion without soiling your hand. Mrs Faith says firmly.

Mom, how did you know? Have you been to the fashion industry before, or it's a mere hear? Muyi enquired her mother.

I know you won't listen but argue always, if you like don't listen, be wasting your time, Mrs Faith said

Mom, you have to believe in me, I know I will make it one day, Muyi said with teary eyes

That's your business. Go to the market and buy soup ingredients for the family Mrs Faith said.

Muyi was so sad that she stood up and left for the market. She met her old secondary school classmate, Amaobi. They exchanged pleasantries, and Amaobi noticed her mood and asked her what the problem was.

Hey girl, you look so moody, and that's not the Muyi I know; what is bothering you, Amaobi asked.

I want to learn fashion design, but everybody thinks it is a bad idea because I can't sew well or draw any simple pattern well, Muyi complained to her friend.

It that all that made you keep your face like this; I have an idea for you; you know that my aunty makes beautiful clothes, corsets, kimonos, and different Ankara styles. Don't forget she also brings out her own designs; if you don't mind, I will take you to her to learn every day after the jamb lesson Amaobi said, smiling, and his words were a big source of encouragement to Muyi.

She and Amaobi exchanged the number and address of the shop location. Immediately, her spirit was lifted, and she bought whatever that was told of her to buy in the market. When she got back home, her mother asked her why she was happy, but she sealed her mouth, saying nothing to very everybody.

Everybody still tries to advise her otherwise, but she made up her mind that she wouldn't back down on her decision to become a fashion designer. She secretly started learning from the lady without her family knowing.

After Muyi has learned for 6 months, and her skills keep improving even better than her madam; Muyi contests in a small fashion show and wins but never lets the family know.

One day, Muyi decided to enter a local big fashion competition, despite her family's and friends' discouragement. They told her she'd embarrass herself, that she wasn't talented enough, and that she should just stick to crocheting for her family.

Despite the constant criticism, Muyi refused to give up. But Muyi didn't listen, she poured her heart and soul into preparing for the competition; she practiced her sewing skills every day, experimenting with new patterns and techniques. She watched fashion videos, read fashion books, and even took online courses for her fashion clothes. And when the day arrived, she stood confidently in front of the judges.

Presented her design, and she came out as the overall best. Muyi winning spread like wide fire. As soon as she climbed the stage to give her speech, someone shook her with a strong arm. She wakes up to see herself on her bed dreaming. And she sighed.

Wow, that dream can still turn to reality. Just a little push and determination, it will become real. Nice one.

Thank you

Wow. Passion is something that drives the mind into doing things.

Now after reading all through and expecting a happy-ever-ending story, it's a dream-like everything was a dream 😃

Yes but it can still come to reality
