James is a young man in his early 40's, he works in the banking industry. His always seen walking alone but a jovial fellow.
He doesn't have many friends, especially no female friends at all, and this worries the mother so much.
One day when James has gone to work, the mother calls the younger siblings,
Eme! eme!! Franka! Franka!, mama James shouted.
Where could all these children be at this time of the day, she wondered.
She decided to go into the kitchen to check them, then move towards their bedroom, but they were not there too.
She went to the balcony, they were sleeping on a mat.
She gently taps them, Eme! Franka! Wake up. I have been calling you children for what seems like ages.
Sorry ma, Eme says, stretching himself.
We didn't hear you calling me, said Franka, wiping the saliva that was threatening to come out from the corners of her mouth.

Eme and Franka exchange glances, then turn to face their mother with one voice.

There was a pause, and then Franka spoke.
Mother are you talking about Brother James or Brother Kalu, Franka asked
I'm talking about your brother James. Their mother said, cutting Franka short.
Eme and Franka exchange knowing glances again and burst out laughing.
Mama, you know that Brother James is not into women's things; he's a business-oriented person. Eme answered their mother.
I think he has but is one lady like that, but I don't know if that's his girlfriend or just a friend, Franka said.
Are you sure about this, Franka, their mother queried.
Yes, ma, he always stopped at her side before getting to the house; I have seen him thrice Franka said.
Why didn't you tell me since? So if I hadn't asked you, you would just keep quiet and allow your mother to be bothered for no reason? Said Ma James.
But mom, you have never asked, so why would I tell you, I am not a gossip, Franka protested.
Even so, you would have whispered to your mother's ear, she said, standing up from the bench.
Eme, go and fetch water, Franka get things ready for dinner; your brother will soon be back. Mama James said, dishing out instructions.
When James came back in the evening, he noticed the silence in the house.
Good evening, ma, James says, walking into his room.
James, please when you are done. I need to talk to you. said his mother
I am free now, Mom; what's the problem? James asked, looking at the mom with a worried face.
James, when will you get married, his mother asked
James smiled, crossing his hand on the mother's shoulder.
Mom, you worry too much. Anyway, it was supposed to be a surprise, and I was going to introduce her to you. James replied with a grin on his face.
Mama James jumped up and started dancing. Are you serious? You are finally getting married. Praise the lord.
Eme, Franka, and Kalu came out and asked what happened, and their mum told them the good news. They all shouted; their happiness was just too much.
When are you bringing her to us, their mother asked James.
On Sunday ma, James replied
Sunday eeh, please bring her tomorrow, I was beginning to wonder if you are gay their mother say
Haba ma, don't you trust the child you raise? James replied, frowning.
Oh, no vex, I trust you. Can we all go and eat now, their mom said, changing the topic.
The following morning, James left for work but had an accident on his way back.
Franka was called and told that their brother was in the hospital. She shouted and couldn't tell their mother as she knew that the mother had a fragile heart and she didn't know how their mother would take the news.
So they all decide to keep mute till he gets better but where are they going to say that James went to and someone needs to stay with him in the hospital.
Finally, they have no choice but to tell her, after they must have called their mother's elder sister to come around, cause James was in a coma.
When the news reached Mama James, she fainted and was rushed to the hospital; she, too, fell into a coma cause her fragile heart couldn't take it.
The family was thrown into sorrow, just a night after celebrating their brother.
Two months after James woke up from his coma, mama James had already woken up two weeks ago and had never left James' side.
Mama James and the entire family were so happy when James woke up.
After 7 months, James got married, and Mama James whispered to his ears, don't ever frighten your mother like that again.
James smiled and said never, ma.
