******A beautiful Challenge
****The day was still young so I decided to visit my new friend. Her name is Bethanie. Bethanie and I had just met about few weeks ago, we met at the school park the day I got to campus. I had asked her for direction to the female hostel and she took me there by herself, that's how we became friends.Bethanie was very brilliant and I love to keep my circles of friends with the genius ones.
****When I got to her place that afternoon, I met her sitted in front of her room in the hostel. My own room was on the first floor while Bethanie stayed on the fifth floor with some other roomates. She seems to be memorising something. Hey girl whatsup? I said smiling. She seems to be excited seeing me as she jumped up to hug me immediately. "I'm so happy you came, she said beaming with joy. Okay, gist me, I responded. She offered me a seat and we started talking. There's going to be a spelling bee competition in the campus and two students are to registered from each department. It's the latest campus news. I never knew, how I'd love to take this challenge, I thought.
****Bethanie already registered. She's in science and laboratory department while I was in mass communication. I knew many scholars from my department must have registered too but I decided to join. I used bethanie's phone to do the registration.
A week later, the first round began. I was anxious. Facing the crowd was not my thing but I summoned courage. It wasn't an easy task. Spelling unfamiliar and new words within 10 seconds is a real deal. Panic! Yes, I panicked along the way when I realised I knew nothing compared to others contestants. There were too many participants, it seems the whole school want to win a prize. They only needed two participants for now.
****However, at the end of the game, I was lucky to be selected among the winners who will go for the semi finals. Not only me, even bathanie got to the picked too. Some departments loose all their participant, some didn't even participated, others still has hope of one or both participant like me.
So, about ten department entered the semi - final. Thanks to one of the judges, she gave us hints on how to win. Such as, asking for meaning of a particular word before spelling, bringing along a plain sheet of paper and pen, writing it down first, having a clear mind and preparing for the worst etc.
On the set day, we gathered again. I had memorised half of the Oxford dictionary including some meaning. Fully set for the event, I was just giving answers like a champion. In the end, only five department entered the final stage and mass communication took the third position. I felt sorry for my friend, Bethanie she lost and was very sad.
****I was very eager to continue my learning but the announcement got me more worried. The final stage is starting In 30 minute. A cloud of confusion and fear befalled me. I thought we would wait a few more days, "I murmured". I went outside to take a break and to clear my head. How can I beat this guru (intelligent ) library and information department who took the first and the English department that take the second position. I was lost in thought until the bell ranged for all participants to enter. The final round began. I called my mum to explain to her, I always speak with her whenever I feel down. She talked calmly and prayed for me. I felt deep peace within me.
******So, we had the last stage of the spelling bee. It was like magic!, I only missed a few words. Most of the words are what I had studied and memorised. The Heavens must have smiled at me, I wasn't even afraid anymore. I believed what will be will be. By the time the winner was announced, I knelt down immediately sobbing like a baby. I won the spelling bee.
Heaven shine the light on me! Heaven shine the light on me!. Omoh I just can’t imagine the overwhelming joy that will appear in your mind when your name was announced.
Smiles, yes, thanks boss
A pleasure and nice read.
