My Valentine's day

The day is Valentine's Day, a completely plausible made-up holiday created in a desperate bid to boost card and rose sales.

A married lady starts off by scrolling through her phone and automatically forwards the Happy Galentines Day messages to the myriad of girl friends who get a modicum of pleasure from this more practical version of Valentine's Day.

She starts off her day by annihilating her diet by eating one, no, two, okay, three chocolate bars. It is the day of love, and one must love oneself. If one wants, nay, demands, chocolate, one must comply.

In a reasonably happy mood, she cuddles with her toddler, who, like many of the male species on this day, is having none of it. He wiggles out after throwing his doting mother a contemptuous glance.

She sighs and reaches for the fourth chocolate bar. She eats half of it and congratulates herself on her restraint.

Her husband comes into her home office. She smiles brightly and says, "Happy Valentine's Day."
He looks discombobulated and manages to squeak, "Ah, that's today; happy Valentine's Day." and runs as fast as is possible.

The lady smiles wryly as she reaches for the half-eaten chocolate.
She goes on social media only to shut it down really quick after the nauseating love posts. Kids, eh? Give them seven years of marriage and a grumpy toddler, and Valentine's Day is going to go poof.

She catches a glimpse in the mirror and notices the chocolate that is liberally smudged on her mouth.
An image from her childhood flashes in her mind. When an excited 11-year-old had created a gaudy card with sparkles and origami for her first crush. She had slept with the card under her pillow and earned a reprimand from her mom on Valentine's Day for the lovely task of cleaning glitter from the pillow case. She had reached the school and handed over her card. To her surprise, her crush had smiled and taken out a piece of candy from his pocket. It was a good Valentine's Day.

She sighs at the purity of that moment.

There is a knock at her door. Her husband comes in looking sheepish. He hands her a chocolate bar. It is her favourite chocolate from her childhood.

It is a good Valentine's Day.

Your story about Valentine's Day is real and told in such a funny way.
It's indeed fair to class Valentine's Day as a commercial one and makes more sense to celebrate great friendships and sisterhood as Galentine's Day. That chocolate story is a funny one, and you do need to indulge sometimes.

Thanks for reading!

At least I'm not alone. I feel the same way about Valentine's Day. You've reminded me to have some chocolate that my girlfriend sent me in the mail from New Zealand. It's Whittaker chocolates with some exciting mix of honey and nuts 😋

your story is very interesting and real.

Wow, this is a very interesting story @diebitch tch. I enjoyed every word from the first till the last. You did a good job crafting this great piece of art.

your Valentine's Day experience was a joy to read. It's refreshing to see someone recognize the commercial nature of the holiday and celebrate the importance of strong friendships and bonds through Galentine's Day. Your tale of the chocolate mishap had me laughing out loud - it's a great reminder to indulge in the little things that bring us joy.
