Helen, an undergraduate of psychology in the university, was struggling with her studies and taking care of her sick mom, and was finding it hard to keep up with her courses.
Every morning before she leaves for school, she would prepare food and medicine and keep for her mom before leaving. Before she gets to school, three to four classes might have ended and she would only collect notes to copy and do the necessary assignment given.
One day when she arrived at school, her friend looked at her with concern. “Helen, it looks like you are in soup,” she said.
”What happened?” Helen asked.
”Mr. Fred was here earlier looking for you and you were nowhere to be found, You need to meet him soon to avoid some consequences.”
Helen was contemplating on the reason why Mr. Fred would be looking for her. After her lectures that day, she went to Mr. Fred's office. On getting there, she knocked on the door and there was a response before she entered.
”Good afternoon sir, said Helen”
”How may I help you?” the lecturer replied.
Sir, I heard you were looking for me earlier in class today” she replied.
”What is your name?” he asked her.
”My name is Helen Mathew sir,” she replied.
”Why are you always absent in my class?”
”Sir, it is not my doing that I am always absent in your class, I have some personal issues to sort out”.
”What is it that is really serious that makes you miss lectures?”
”Sir, my mom, she is bedridden and I have to attend to her before I come to school everyday”
”Has anything been done on her issue?”
”Yes sir, she was diagnosed of kidney failure and we don't have money for the surgery”
”How much is the money?”
”Three million, she replied”
”You can go”
Helen left his office and went back to the lecture hall. Her friend Loveth was waiting for her in the lecture hall to find out what the lecturer wanted.
*”Helen, what happened? What did Mr. Fred want? Loveth asked.
** He ask why I am not always available in the his class, I told him my problem and he ask me to go**
”That's all, asked Loveth”
”Yes dear, that is all ooooo”
"I was scared when he asked after you. I thought you offended Mr. Fred of the most high." They both laughed and continued with their studies.
When Helen got home that day, she told her mom what transpired between Mr. Fred and her. Her mom asked her of his response. He said nothing and ask me to leave. Okay God will help us, her mom said.
The following day, Mr. Fred sent for Helen
"How much was the money again?" He asked.
”Three million sir, Helen replied”
”I will give you the money on one condition, you will not miss your studies again and you will be serious with it, deal or no deal”
”Deal Sir, Helen responded”
”I will give you two weeks to check your performance and know whether you have improved or not” he continued.
”I will definitely do that sir “
Helen's heart was filledl with joy that her problems were solved.
She will wake up very early, attend to her mom's needs and she will prepare herself for school. Her friend was surprised to see her coming early and not missing anything lectures.
Mr. Fred saw her dedication and he also kept to his own promise. The money was given to her for her mom's surgery and she was very happy.
The surgery was done successfully and her mom was healthy again. Helen was grateful to Mr. Fred for the help he rendered.
Helen and her mom decided to visit Mr. Fred in his office to show their gratitude.
"Good day Sir, Helen greeted. Sir, my mom and I are here to say thank you for all you did for us".
”It's okay replied Mr. Fred. I saw her performance in my assignment and needed to see the person but she was not in school, so I decided to see her. She narrated her story to me. I am glad I was able to help”
”Thank you very much sir. Helen and her mom said as they left Mr. Fred's office.*
Helen never backslided from her studies and she graduated as the best student in her department.
