Chioma and Nneka had been planning on going grocery shopping for a while now. But there was no time for them since their work was 8-5.
So this particular weekend, they had nothing to do and they had run out of groceries in the house.
“What are we going to do now? There are no groceries in the house and I'm hungry,” Chioma grumbled.
“Let's go shopping,” Nneka said.
“I don't have strength for shopping now, why don't we order something and later we can go.” Chioma asked.
“It's okay with me, when you are ready, I'm ready, Nneka replied.
They both ordered something to eat for the morning and relaxed till it was afternoon. After they finished with what they were doing, they left for the supermarket to get the groceries.
On their way to the supermarket, they met with an old time friend from secondary school and they started chatting.
“Aah, Nkechi, long time no see. They both said at the same time.”
“Where have you been?” Chioma asked.
“I traveled to Lagos after our WAEC to stay with my aunty, and ever since then, I've been in Lagos” Nkechi said.
“Wow! Lagos babe I hail you,” Nneka added.
“So how has life been with you guys?” Nkechi asked.
“My dear we are managing ooo” Chioma said, I work with one logistic company in town, while Nneka works with First Bank.
“That's nice, you guys are not doing bad for yourselves.”
“I'm a teacher in a private school,” Nkechi said.
“You... a teacher?” Nneka laughed. You hated that occupation with everything in you, so what now happened?
“My dear after graduating, I didn't see anything to do, so I opted for what was available at the moment.” Nkechi said.
“It is not bad my dear. In this country, we don't gain from what we read in school. It is better than being idle, as long as it is putting food on our table and it is legal.” Chioma added.
“I believe we all are doing good for ourselves. It will be better as long we are still breathing.” Nkechi said.
They continued chatting and reminiscing on old times before they said their goodbyes.
Chioma and Nneka almost forgot they were to get groceries from the supermarket. It was already evening before they got to the supermarket and they did not see what they wanted. So they left the supermarket for another one.
Before they could finish their shopping, it was already night and they did not get all they wanted for that day.
When they got home, they were very tired and exhausted and could not make dinner for themselves. They decided to take snacks and sleep for the night.
It was an eventful shopping trip for the two friends because they got to meet their old time friend. They were very excited, they went out that day and their shopping was not in vain.
