Kindergarten Experience

Grace could not sleep as she anxiously awaited her dream job. Different thoughts flowed through her mind as she gently rolled from side to side in her bed. She had always wanted to be a teacher. Not just a teacher, but a teacher of little kids ranging from two years old to five years old. Her love for little children stems from the fact that she is the only child of her parents. She had waited expectantly for her mom to conceive another baby, however, as fate would have it, she remains the only child at 17.

She had just finished high school, and in order to keep herself busy while preparing to go to the university, she decided to apply as an assistant teacher in a primary school not so far from her house. She is to resume to work the next morning, which is Monday morning, as early as 7:30am.

As the morning alarm rang out loud at 6am, Grace jumped up from bed, said her morning prayers and went straight into the bathroom. After 45 minutes, she was done putting on her best dress. She wore a fitted black gown and a pink suit jacket. "Of course I need to dress corporately as teachers used to", she said to herself with a bright smile as she gently comb her hair into curls.

At exactly 7:05am, Grace is seen walking down the street of her house straight to the direction where the school is located. Her navy blue slip on shoes is a perfect match for the blue and pink bag she carried. She looked extremely beautiful and different people stole glances at her as she walked past.

"Good morning, sir", she said to the gatekeeper on getting to the school gate. "Good morning. You're the new Miss Grace right?", he said. "Yes please", she replied. "What class would you be teaching?" he asked. "Ehm, I don't know yet", she answered. "Okay. Please write your name on the attendance list", he said and directed her towards the reception area.

Grace got to the reception area and met with Mr Addison who took her to the class where she would be teaching. Although she is not the main class teacher, she would teach the children for the next three weeks because the main class teacher had just put to bed and won't be resuming soon.

The class is a kindergarten class consisting of twelve children within the ages four and five. The classroom is a well spaced one and beautifully decorated with all forms of children cartoons and paperworks that reflect learning and fun. The children, seated round a table, amusedly fix their eyes on the slender and beautiful lady standing before them. "Hello children", Mr Addison said and they finally realised that he too was standing right in front of them. "Mr Addiiiisonnnnn" the children roared cheerfully as some of them left their seats to give him a handshake.

"Alright! Alright! That's fine beautiful children. Go back to your seats and let me tell you something beautiful", Mr Addison spoke in a childish manner to the children. "This beautiful lady here is now your new teachhhheeerrrrr!" "Wowwwww!" most of the children exclaimed. "What is her name?" A little boy whom Grace later found out to be Leonard asked courageously. "My name is Miss Grace and I'll be your class teacher for the next three weeks until Mrs Bernice returns back" Grace joyfully and happily spoke to the children. "Yayyyy!" the children jumped up joyfully as "Miss Grace is now our new teacher" echoed in the air.

Two weeks of teaching the kindergarten children has been a great deal of fulfillment to Grace. She made sure the children had lots of fun while learning. Everything went peacefully well until an event which almost ripped life out of Grace happened.

It happened on a Friday morning which marks her two weeks of teaching in the school. The children were seated as usual in the classroom. Grace had just finished a session of morning drill with the children. This session comprises recitations, singing of rhymes and learning of moral conducts and values. After the session, Grace realises that she had run out of colour pencils, cardboards and worksheets. Thus, she quickly left the children in the class and went to the Admin's office after instructing them to maintain order and silence.

Fifteen minutes later, she returned to the class only to discover that the children had taken their poster colours and painted their faces with different colours. The table was full of colours, their hands were colourful, their faces were also masquerading with all sorts of colours. "What is this?" Grace exclaimed in an agitated manner. "Oh my God! What have you guys done?" She said as she began to pace back and forth the classroom. She quickly picked up her phone and called Mr Addison to narrate the whole matter to him.

On getting to the classroom, Mr Addison saw the mess which the children created. "The director will see me as incompetent if she finds out about this. I don't really know why the children did this. I'm so sorry, sir" Grace said as tears began to roll down her cheeks.

"Oh, no no no, Grace, you don't have to cry" Mr Addison said and held her hands. "It's LPLP Friday!" Mr Addison exclaimed. "Yes! it's LPLP Friday!" the children also exclaimed joyfully. "What's LPLP?" Grace asked surprisingly. "It's a Let's Paint, Let's Play Friday where the children are given an opportunity to play through the art of painting. I think they know you're not aware that's why they decided to do it themselves." Mr Addison said with a broad smile. "Okay, wow!" Grace said as a huge wave of relief rushed through her. She turned to the children and said happily "Okay children. That's a job well done because it's LPLP Friiiidaaayyyy!" "Yayyyyy! Let's Paint, Let's Play!" the children echoed joyfully and continued with their painting activity.
