Will this be the beginning of an era or the end of it? The Elders looked at each other for fear of the unknown.

Dolly let’s hurry up, I see thunderstorms which means the the rain is about to pour down heavily—Dolly mooed shaking her head in agreement, she wasn’t a fan of getting wet. Carolyn held the rope around Dolly’s neck and with a basket on the other hand, walking towards where she needed to collect firewood for dinner. But as she approached her destination, she saw swipes of blood on the green grasses and was taken aback. Dolly, could this be real blood? , Carolyn asked her cow who mooed again, refusing to go further.

It’s okay Dolly, I’ll check it out real quick , Carolyn followed the blood steps which led her to a girl about her age lying helplessly with blood stains all over her—she jumped back in fear, wondering how a human being got there. Carolyn was a half-human, half-elf.

Carolyn’s father, Archon George(an elf) fell in love with her mother(a human), but this was against the law of the land of Birmingham—elves from time immemorial were banished from Birmingham, so after marriage, her parents moved far away to start their lives as a couple. A year later, they had a baby girl and named her Carolyn.
Carolyn and her family lived far away from humans, humans detested them for a mistake their forefathers had committed in time past. Archon George then created a community of elves, a safe place for them to stay, every elf and their family were thankful and paid homage to him and his family as their god.

Her heart pounded fast as she saw the injured girl, Dolly still mooed from a distance as if in disagreement with what Carolyn was doing. She knelt beside the girl and put her finger under her nose, she was still breathing, she was alive! Although her breathing was faint. Carolyn tore a piece of her beautiful dress and tied up the stranger’s wounds, something then caught her sight—it was a crest around the neck of the stranger and this crest had the emblem of the Birmingham royal palace.

She inhaled sharply. The wounded girl was a human princess! But what was she doing here? Carolyn said, pacing around and not knowing what step to take. She couldn’t leave the girl there else she would die and taking the girl to the elf community would cause panic and spread fear. Papa has always taught me to show kindness even to my enemies , Carolyn lifted the girl up, carried her onto Dolly’s back and fastened her firmly— C’mon Dolly, we’ve got a life to save. We must leave at once! , Dolly let out a reluctant grunt but did not resist.

As they plodded through the thick forest, the thunder rumbling became more intense, the skies became darker like something ominous was lurking around. Carolyn’s mind was clouded with thoughts…What if Papa is disappointed in me? Or what if the people see me as a traitor? Or….

Oh God of the heavens, help me out , She closed her eyes and said as they approached the main gate.

As they got closer, she saw the guards at the main gate already drawing out their swords at the sight of a human on Dolly’s back. Shield your swords, she is wounded and thus not a threat. The guards looked at one another in utter disbelief….

My princess, do you know what you’re saying?

I do not drink and I’m completely in my senses, now do as I say.

But she is human, my princess. She cannot be here , another soldier said.

The fuss caused the elves to gather, the chatter between them got louder and louder, this soon drew the attention of Archon George. Carolyn’s heart pounded as she saw her father in his glory making his way to where she was, with his guards and senators—Papa please forgive me, but she needs help. Archon George’s eyes darted between his daughter and the wounded girl, his face unreadable.

She is terribly hurt, I couldn’t just leave her in the woods, she would have died. Carolyn said. Her father looked at her, at the wounded girl again and his people—their faces showing intense panic and fear. We cannot treat her, her kind detests us , an Elder said…No! She’s just a girl like I am papa, you taught me that kindness calms any storm.

Archon George’s eyes narrowed Take her in, we will treat her , the elves were not in support of this but had no choice. A month later, the humans traced where their daughter was to the elves’ kingdom, they asked for war thinking the elves had killed their daughter but alas! The human princess had been nursed back to life, hale and hearty.

Touched by this act of kindness, the humans asked for reconciliation to right their wrongs. Princess Carolyn succeeded in building a bridge between two separated worlds.
