The cars were locked in a traffic jam, the sun was hot and Jimmy was tired, he needed to get out of the driver's seat but he couldn't. His wife, Cynthia could not drive and on days like this, he really wished she could.
"My love, I wish you can drive, I am very tired and this hold-up is not helping matters" Jimmy said.
"Well, I would have been able to drive if you agreed to teach me, so quit complaining" she replied sharply. She was not in the mood for his unnecessary complaints.
Few years ago when they started dating, Cynthia was very interested in learning how to drive but Jimmy would always wave it off. She figured he didn't want to be so committed to a girlfriend and was taking his time. After their marriage she had brought up the topic but Jimmy was still unyielding.
"You need to teach me how to drive, all my friends can drive" she had told him one morning while they were having breakfast.
"Are you the same with your friends?" he had asked "besides, I am always here to take you anywhere", he added.
"Driving is a life skill that everyone should have, whether or not they have a driver" she insisted but Jimmy refused.
"Don't worry dear, besides I don't even have the time right now".
Cynthia would occasionally bring it up but Jimmy never bulged. He would only infuriate her on days he was tired or sick by saying he wished she could drive and she never took the statement lightly because she was willing to drive but his stubborness was the reason why she was still yet to learn.
"I will start teaching you how to drive this weekend" Jimmy said when they finally got out of the traffic jam.
"Thats my hubby" Cynthia replied while planting a lovely peck on his cheek. "Would you teach me or take me to a driving school?"z
"I will teach you myself" he said.
The weekend approached very slowly and Cynthia was getting impatient.
"Darling, since we came back from work early today, why don't we go for the driving lesson today?" she asked on thursday afternoon.
"I see that you can no longer wait for the weekend" Jimmy commented "but no problem, let's go".
At the end of the lesson, Cynthia was doing well, she grasped the various car parts and their uses very quickly. She was able to control the steering with great ease and it seemed like she had been doing it for ages. Her interest coupled with Jimmy's expertise were in sync to help accelerate the learning process for her.
She was fascinated by the various indicators on the dashboard and how each sign could communicate an important message to the driver and enhance safety. She was also delighted to understand the various signals she had previously observed in other cars without knowing what they meant.
After about two hours of driving round the field nonstop, the lesson was brought to an end.
"You have done well sweetie, by tomorrow we will now focus on reversing, that's the real deal. Let's stop for now" Jimmy instructed.
"Thanks love" she said while planting a kiss on his lips, "you are a great teacher".
By the next sunday, Cynthia was already driving the car around street roads and other less busy roads, she could now go on little errands without waiting for Jimmy.
"It's time we got you a licence so that you can drive as far as you want" Jimmy had said one day after observing her desire to drive long distances.
Jimmy made the necessary arrangements and took Cynthia to the licencing office where she began the process of getting a driver's license.
About a month later, Jimmy was returning from a travel and the bus he was travelling in got spoilt. It took about four hours before the problem could be fixed and as a result, Jimmy was getting back into town around 10pm and at this time, getting intrastate transport would be very difficult and the risk of falling into the wrong hands greatly increased.
He decided to call Cynthia to come pick him up from the park.
"Hi sweetie, I am just getting back to town now and I am kinda stranded. Can you drive to Kings park now? so you can pick me up, you know how this place is at this time"
"Alright dear" she responded.
When she drove to the park and met him, he was overwhelmed with Joy.
"You see sweetie, I am very happy that I taught you how to drive, it has come to good use in this circumstance" Jimmy said happily.
"Yeah, that is to show you what you have been missing all this while you refused to teach me" she responded, eyeing him with the corner of her eyes.
Jimmy was very impressed with Cynthia's driving and promised to buy her a car of her own.
"You look very beautiful on the wheels, you are driving me crazy. I will get you a car soon" he said.
"Oh dear!", she exclaimed "I love you"
"I love you too".

I thought the husband was still going to snub her request of training her on how to drive but I trusted her to push it till the husband succumb 😅
Yeah, persistence was the key for her. It does wonders most times.
The wife got what she wanted and in a situation like the one the husband found himself in, she was very useful.

If you have an opportunity, learn it. It does come in handy, even in the most unexpected of situations or places.
This is a lot of support from a couple, although I am saddened by the pressure the woman had to put on her husband to teach her how to drive. Her stubbornness is quite strong.
He must have had his reasons/fears but all in all, she was able to get it in the end.
