Nnamdi and his fiancee Ebere had serious argument almost all through the night. Ebere wants him to transfer a large sum of money to her elder brother to start business. But Nnamdi refused saying, "Just last week, I sent 200 thousand naira to your father for his health checkup. Do you want to wreck me Ebere?"

"Now, you want me to give 500 thousand naira to Emeka, your elder brother to start business. Do you ever consider for me at all?" Nnamdi was very pissed off that Ebere was always requesting money from him nonstop, and was very ungrateful for all his financial sacrifices for her.

It was 5 AM, and Nnamdi was preparing for work. He could hardly walk properly as he didn't have good sleep all through the night. Even as he struggled to get ready for work, Ebere was still shouting, "You must send that 500 thousand naira to my brother, if not you'll not leave this house today."

While Nnamdi was in the bathroom, he started to remember the good old days - when Ebere was still the girl he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. He remembered that everything changed when she gained admission into the university. She got bad influence from her friends in the university, and became too hungry for money.

After Nnamdi dressed up and was about to leave for work, Ebere held Nnamdi by the belt. Nnamdi asked, "For heaven sake, is it by force to send money to your brother?" Ebere replied instantaneously, "Yes Nnamdi, it is by force." Ebere continued, "You want to get married to me, yet you don't have money. It won't work."

In order to avoid more problems with Ebere and get to work early, Nnamdi decided to transfer the 500 thousand naira to Emeka via bank App. He showed Ebere the receipt and his account balance. And Nnamdi said, "I'm already going broke with the rate you're making me spend money."

Ebere replied, "You better make more money. Stop whining and complaining." Then she aggressively let go of his belt. Nnamdi thought to himself, "She couldn't even say thank you." Angrily, he just opened the door, and left.

On getting to work, Nnamdi was tired, stressed, and disturbed. It was 12 PM, and Nnamdi was sleeping deeply on his work desk, instead of working. His boss Mr Lamidi, woke him up. And observing how exhausted Nnamdi was looking, told him, "Mr Nnamdi, kindly stop whatever work you're doing today. Go back home and rest well. I want to see you in better shape tomorrow."

Nnambi was very glad, and replied, "Thank you boss!" He cleared his desk, and headed home. He got to his doorstep, and saw a strange pair of shoes on the doormat. He could hear Ebere laughing uncontrollably. Nnamdi gently took off his shoes. The door wasn't locked, he opened it softly.

Ebere's laugher was coming from his bedroom, hence Nnamdi tiptoed to see what was so hilarious to her. He opened his bedroom door - only to see his landlord's son Andrew, in bed with Ebere. He was utterly shocked to his bone marrow. To avoid any tragedy, he immediately walked out of the bedroom and left the house.

Nnamdi went straight to the bar just around the corner of his apartment, to consume some alcohol. He couldn't believe what his eyes just saw. He whispered, "Ebere..." And tears rolled down his face. He had one too many bottles, and the bartender Jake, had to stop Nnamdi from consuming more alcohol. Nnamdi slept off at the bar.

At past 7 PM, Jake decided to wake Nnamdi up. Nnamdi was surprised that it was already evening. He gathered his composure, paid for his drinks, and headed home. Flashes of the unpleasant scene of Ebere and Andrew in bed, kept bombarding his mind.

When he opened the door, he noticed that Ebere's picture was no longer on the wall. He opened his bedroom door, and behold, Ebere had packed all of her belongings and left. Nnamdi instantaneously fell to the floor. He asked himself, "Am I happy or sad that Ebere has left my life?" As he contemplates, he slept off on the floor.

He woke up around 5 AM, and he felt completely rejuvenated. He felt peace for the first time in a long time. He remembered the question he asked himself, before falling asleep on the floor. And Nnamdi said to himself, "I feel happy that Ebere has left my life for good."

Sort:

Ebere is ungrateful person and he should have noticed the read flags with her excessive demand for money. Who knows if her families were actually keeping the money somewhere for her.

I love the flow of the story and Nnamdi was right to have been happy that she left his life.

Ebere is really an ungrateful person. Thanks for commenting.

I feel for Jake, he passed through that hell of the sake of relationship leading to marriage.

It's obvious that Ebere was never for once interested in marrying Him. She was just there to milk the guy

I guess Ebere considered him a fat cow, and wanted to milk him dry. Thanks for commenting.

After God, fear ladies!

Trust is such a difficult commodity to give out. Many have trusted the wrong people in the past and this has affected their view of others in the present.
I believe he should be glad and pick up from what's left of his life.

He'll just have to get over everything, and find a better person to get married to. Thanks for commenting.

such a wicked woman; thank God she left.
nice write up

Ebere is wicked indeed. Thanks for commenting.

Your story shares the bittersweet side of relationships that are destined to fail: Nnamdi is both relieved and sad when Ebere leaves him.
