A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN

in The Ink Welllast month

Actually, It was a rainy evening in Lagos city when I found myself stranded at a small restaurant. The down pour had come out of nowhere, soaking my clothes as I ran for cover.I immediately sighed shaking droplets from my clothes and shoes before ordering a hot tea.

The restaurant was warm, cozy and almost empty, except for a young man sitting by the window, with his nose slightly buried in a book also waiting for the rain to stop.

As I took a seat close to the counter, the man glanced up and offered me a polite smile. Something about him felt familiar, but I couldn't place it exactly. I sipped my drink, hoping the rain would just stop already.

"Crazy weather, huh?" the man asked, closing his book. His voice was smooth, no doubt. However, I can sense a hint of curiosity in it.

" Yeah, Lagos city has a way of surprising you I guess." I said as I chuckled.

He leaned forward slightly as both our eyes locked. " You look familiar. Have we met before.?" He asked.

I faked a frown while scanning his face all over again. He had a kind eyes, the kind that looks like home.

Oh... my goodness! Then, it hit me. "Wait a second... you're Stanley, right? Stanley Ugochukwu?"

His eyes widened "Happiness Agonsi ? from fifth grade?"

We both laughed in excitement. " I can't believe this! we were best friends before my family moved away."

Stanley smiled " I still remember how you usually beat me at ludo game during lunch breaks. And how we swore we'd be doctors together."

We spent the next two hours catching up and sharing stories of our university days, careers, heartbreaks and dreams.

Then as the rain drizzled slowly, Stanley hesitated before saying, "You know... maybe it wasn't just chance that brought us here tonight."

I met with his gaze and smiling I said, "maybe it wasn't."

Today Stanley and I are married with two beautiful children. That meet up was no accident. It was fate. A Match Made In Heaven.
