In the forest

The wild breeze carries with it the scent of the forest, flooding the university with the smell of nature, pine, oak and flowers, which extends as far as the eye can see.

Alex, who has been studying for days, is sitting in the university library. He opens his book and reads each page, one by one, however, he cannot understand them clearly.

The hours are consumed in moving forward, as if in an instant he forgets everything he reads, he despairs.

He begins to question himself and wonders: "Maybe I don't have the capacity?

With his thoughts broken, depressed, he wanders into the forest of the university.

He wandered through the forest to clear his mind. He followed the paths and stairs that stretched in different directions. Until he came across a pile of flowers cut in the middle of the path.

Near that place he saw a large rock leaning against a huge oak tree that left a space that formed an arch, crossing it, he found a clearing in the middle of the forest.

It was a beautiful place where butterflies fluttered freely around a tree that stood alone in the middle of the clearing.

As he approached, he found a girl reading under the tree. Seeing her golden hair and beautiful skin, he compared her to a forest fairy.

He stood contemplating every detail of the beautiful landscape. As if the grass, the blue sky and the lights filtering through the shadows of the tree where she was studying, formed a scenery that brought joy back to Alex.

Secure in her secret place where she was studying concentrating on her book, Alex came over to greet her. "What a great place to study you've found."

However, he was not surprised to see Alex, he simply lowered his eyebrows and answered: "I'm not studying. And who are you?

The hesitant replied "You don't remember me, we saw each other last night in our dreams, you told me to come here" Alex noticed that the girl was looking at him strangely, but he lowered his voice and continued. "We, we can see each other in dreams.

Are you kidding me?" replied the girl, "It's impossible for me to dream about you"

"Ah, yes," Alex said, holding back a laugh, "and do you remember what you dreamt last night?"

She put his hand to her chin and looked up trying to remember what she had dreamt the night before and in doing so saw a slight chuckle on Alex's face that revealed it was a joke. " Yeah I'm dumb" she said, "I almost believed in what you said"

They both laughed and Alex realized that the book he was reading was about the study he needed to learn, and he was finally able to discuss and understand the subject.

The afternoon was languishing, and the faint sunlight was fading in the sky, but they did not want to say goodbye. They wanted to keep talking, and when the stars finally filled the sky, they decided to leave.

As they walked to the rock, surrounded by the glow of fireflies flashing their lights in all directions, she took his hand and with a shy and blushing voice asked, "Will you come back here tomorrow?"

"Yes," he replied, "as long as you're here." And as he rounded the rock, he realized he was talking to himself. He was bewildered, as if the image of her had vanished into thin air. He looked around, and he was surrounded only by darkness and the sound of night birds.

Furthermore, he felt fear at that moment, but when he returned to his room, he remembered her fondly and began to feel attracted to her. The next day, he successfully finished his exam and went to the place to meet the girl.

However, she never appeared. The next few days, he continued to go to the same place. He did not know who she was, where she came from, or if she was a ghost. He was only sure that he wanted to see her again.

In the university dining room, the walls were always decorated with black-and-white photographs. Alex had seen them before, but that day he realized something: he had never noticed that one of the girls in the photographs looked very much like the girl in the forest.

Alex put the tray aside and walked over to the photo to touch it.

"Who is this girl?" He asked

The cook who was serving the food, busy at work, answered without raising his head. I don't know who she is, that picture has always been there.

One of the older cooks approached and answered in a soft and weak voice: "She was a student who one day went crazy" she said "She always cut flowers and roses" the anxious face became nostalgic and she continued "back then we fed her, that's why she never left these places".

Alex knew from the beginning that it was a spectral entity, but after hearing what the old woman said he doubted, because the person he met was fine. He looked at the photo and noticed the details "But in this photo it doesn't look bad" he said.

"No," the old woman replied. "That picture is from before what happened to her." The old woman then pulled a stool closer and sat down. "She was in love with a boy and when he left her, she went crazy."

Alex was now certain that it was the same girl, a ghost wandering in the woods. Although he had been looking for her, somehow he felt that he too had abandoned her.

He imagined that her soul, which he had known restored, had made her fall back into sorrow.

He left the dining hall sad and thought of going back to that place once more. As she approached, she saw a pile of cut flowers.

He walked among the rock until he could finally see her.

Crying, the girl shouted, "Why do they always do this to me?"

Alex answered as he approached her, who was taking small steps back. "Maybe I only see you when I'm sad." He pulled her close to his chest, while she tried to push him away, but in the end she stayed in his arms.

When she calmed down, Alex stroked her hair, conveying a deep sense of peace. He wiped away her tears with her finger and they brought their faces close together in a kiss.

She was so exhausted from living in the midst of a storm that as she felt relief in her heart she fell into a deep sleep, more than that, into her sepulchral rest.

Her body became translucent in a dream come true, and Alex could no longer touch her.

He couldn't feel her on him, he wanted to hold her in his arms that went through her like air.

With his eyes closed, he began to ascend towards the sky.He tried to scream at her, to prevent her eternal rest, and yet, for her sake, he let her go.

While she vanished into the air in a spray of nectar, light and perfume, bathing him with the essence of her last caress before she left for heaven.

Hi inkwell, thank you very much, I will keep an eye on the timer to participate in the contests.

The theme of lost or unrequited love comes through strongly. The girl is heartbroken when abandoned by her lover, and even in death continues to long for love and connection. Alex tries to provide this for her, but ultimately cannot hold onto her spirit.

Thanks enalaton, yes it is a story of an unrequited love, that goes beyond death.

Very nice your story, especially. When with her eyes closed she began to ascend towards heaven and he tried to prevent her eternal rest, however he let her go for her sake. Have a happy day

Thanks I'm glad you liked that part.

The strong connection of love was depicted in this story making it believable that love is a virus, it's never dies. Even in death, love made them parade.

Thank you, yes, love in this story is like a virus, leading to madness and damning the soul, even beyond death
