The ink well nonfiction. Tamara and the Nine.

in The Ink Well3 days ago

Have you not heard the statement “A Stitch in time saves Time” Little Tamara said to her Aunty, it's not “time” it's “Nine” her aunty tries to correct her but we are not saving any nine what we clearly are trying to meet up with now is the time, little Tamara added.

Hey, it's just an idiom that keeps you on time. That's exactly what I am talking about. It's all about the time and not Nine, Tamara still stood her ground.

I am sure you will get to know the right statement when you grow up, just pack your bags and make sure you don't forget anything this preparation was supposed to be don yesterday but it came impromptu so please try not to leave anything behind and you know our flight is suppose to be in the next 40 minutes of which we have used 10 minutes out of it trying to explain how a stitch should save nine and not time.

So, Tamara packed her things carefully making sure she's not leaving anything behind. Travelling to Lagos from Abuja is not a small trip though it's going to be done via the aircraft.

They packed their belongings and left for the airport on getting to the airport, Tamara who almost cried that her travelling document should be given to her while they were at home left it on her bed shelf.

How could you forget your transport documents Tamara’s aunty scolded her.

Today you will know what it means to save Nine and not time because it's obvious that we are going to miss this flight and it's the last one for the day. The only means we have to get to Lagos by morning now is to travel by Road.

From Abuja to Lagos by flight is just about 45 minutes not even up to an hour but by road it's about 12 to 13 hours depending on the vehicle you boarded.

The worst of it all is that we will have to go by night because we can't wait an extra day as I have an important meeting to meet by 8 am tomorrow.

Tamara looked at her aunty as she lamented, she never bothered since she knew not what her aunty was talking about. All she wants is for her to get to lagos where she can see her siblings, She never knew what was ahead of her.

Her aunty quickly rushed to the bus stop to book a bus going to Lagos that night. Tamara was excited as that will be her first time travelling to Lagos by road. I am sure it's going to be a wonderful experience, she said to herself.

Not long after the bus took off and the first thing Tamara observed was discomfort as there were different classes of people on board, the bus was stuffy and the sitting arrangement was nothing to talk about.

She managed to stay calm but then the noise was something else. She brought out her tab to keep herself company but she could barely hear anything from it as the noise kept growing worse.

After several hours of travelling she asked if they were close to Lagos but her aunty replied “we have not even travelled half of the trip” Tamara almost burst into tears as she couldn't bear the pain of discomfort anymore.

She tried to sleep but the discomfort attached to her sleeping makes it not possible.
So many things she couldn't do while travelling because of her simple mistake of not carrying her travelling document and that made the trip unbearable for her.

At one point she became hungry but of course it's a night trip and so there is nowhere to buy anything.

They finally got to lagos by day break and it was a bad experience for Tamara she complained to her siblings.

Her aunty responded Now you understand the meaning of that Idiom we argued about yesterday. If we had left on time, you wouldn't have complained of all these things. All these are the nine you would have saved and the time is also included in the nine don't forget.

Her aunty prepared and left for her appointment she had that morning even though she was also tired.

Only if I had prepared on time I wouldn't have been a victim of this useless experience, Tamara said as she jumped on her bed to repay nature for what she couldn't do throughout the night.

Tamara the troubled child😅😅 If she knew how bad the experience was going to be, she would have forgotten her passport document.
Night traveling can be risky too, but I am glad they all got home safe.

The moral is that it is better to listen to people who have more experience than you concerning a certain issue than prove your own knowledge

When traveling, it is always advisable to leave home on time. It may not even be discomfort from the passengers but may be traffic and all
So being an early bird is always better

Sometimes we don't know it all. We should learn to listen to others that have experienced life more than us.
A beautiful story.

I can't but agree that "time" is what's at stake, and not "nine". Well, that's an idiom, anyway.

I've never paused to find out what that "nine" really means, 😅 I think you have just given me a little understanding into that, thank you.
