I sent out the text to my best friend Sarah. Taking a deep breath, I stood up to my feet, reaching the side table to place my phone; it beeped.
Sarah replied to my message, and she wished me luck.I checked myself in the mirror; it's been a horrible week of doing the same thing over and over again.
It's boring indoors just reading just because of my poor result. It was a big punishment for me.I rehearsed my punchlines, hoping it would make a mark.
As I dragged my feet out of my room, I knew where Dad was going to be, in his garage, where he was getting his hands on some wires to repair the old wagon.
I once heard him say he was going to give me the car instead of getting a new one.I argued terribly with him, but he promised to get one if my grades improved. So I wasn't in house arrest; it was free will to prove myself.
The smell of petrol filled my nose, and his favorite jam was playing on the radio. He was under the car, which had a jack on.
“Dad, can I talk to you for a sec?"
“Sure.” I went over to the radio and turned it off.
He took out his gloves before turning to me.
“Is anything the matter, Jane?”
“Dad, I want to go to a concert. I need some cash, and I thought I might borrow your car.” I went straight to the point.
“No, Jane, you can't go. You're under house arrest, and you know I don't go back on my words."
“Dad, please. My favorite artist is coming, I begged.
“You will surely go for more, but I don't think this one is for you.”
“Dad, you've just been mean. You know how much I love going to this concert. Fine."
I raised a hand in the air like I was making a pledge.
“I promise my result will improve.”
“You made that promise the last time. Why don't you see my side? I'm doing this for your own good. Why don't you take your ass inside? No concert. That's final!” he yelled.
My face fell with disappointment, for once I thought to be a good kid and tell my dad, but I guess it was a bad idea.
I dragged my feet back to my room and immediately tested Serah over my father's reaction. She replied with a text.
“Don't be sad; I'm outside your house right now. I'm packed where your father won't get to see me. I got all we want, so hurry up and sneak out already."
I jumped to my feet, excitement bubbling within me.
I carefully covered three pillows underneath my sheets, making it look like I was fast asleep.
I carefully sneered out through the window without making any sound. I lowered my head and continued walking down the lane; I could see Sarah's car parked some miles away.
I got into her car and had a girl's chitchat. I felt like screaming as I couldn't express the joy I have within me.
I hope Dad doesn't find out because he will surely force the old wagon on me as punishment. We got to the venue, and it was crowded with people flocking in.
“We have to get our pass,” Sarah mentioned, pointing at the long line that stood in front of us.
“How are we going to get past that now?” We both walked to the back, joining the line.
It was so long that I wondered if we were ever going to meet up before the event got started. We stood for a few minutes, and it seemed like the line wasn't moving.
I was already bitter because I can't tell why I will risk coming here just to stand on the line and still end up taking some sort of punishment for my behavior when I get home.
But luckily another lady came to join the first, making it faster. We got the tickets, though the event had already started, but I didn't miss the highlight when my favorite artist performed.
We got home quite late; Sarah dropped me off, and I was left to my own fate. I got back to my room only to see my father resting his back on the wall with his arms crossed. My heart flipped; I knew I was in big trouble.
“Dad, I'm sorry. I just couldn't miss it.” I was the first to speak up before he even said anything.
“It's fine.” I blinked my eyes for a second, wondering if I heard right.
“Really?” I asked to be sure.
“I just realized I have been hard on you. I'm sorry, kid. I just want the best for you."
I felt tears gather in my eyes as I ran to give my dad a big hug.
“I love you, Dad. I promise my grade won't drop ever again.”
That was a decision I made, and I kept to my promise.
Nice story, I like vacations but I really wish they would end when they arrive.
