"Mum it's it's Jeff the magician! He's here on my birthday!" Tommy exclaimed with mouth wide open and eyes almost popping out of the socket.
"You know him?" surprised Mrs Kenny asked her son not looking away from the pan of baked cookies she was arranging.
"Yeah!"
Holding Tommy by his shoulders, "Well, we heard he's good. So, your dad and I thought we should surprise you", she said proudly.
"Good? He's amazing!" Tommy replied, eyes still glued to the magician who by now was showing off to a few guests at the party.
Soon it was time for the magician to perform. Everyone gathered around in the family garden. Then, the magician, a tall lanky dude in his early thirties, dressed in a knee length suit and a long hat. He walked onto the make shift stage and took a bow.
Immediately, there was dead silence among the partygoers.
"Ladies and gentlemen, little boys and girls. Oh, before I forget, the celebrant, welcome!" the magician flocked his fingers, and a little Iron Man action figure appeared in his palms. He walked down to where Timmy was seated and handed him the toy. "Prepare to be amazed" he added walking back then the stage
With all eyes and attention on him, he pulled out his hat and hummed a dramatic song, which added a bit of soundtrack to his performance. He dipped his hands inside the hat and pulled out a rabbit.
There was a little gasp from the crowd. Realising that the crowd must have been fed up with that regular match trick. He put his hat back on his head and took a little bow.
"How about I give you guys something spectacular?" He asked
"Yeah" Tommy yelled from the crowd.
"Something mythical?" The magician asked again.
"Yeah!" This time the whole crowd chorused.
Then the magician pulled his hat off again and laid it on the floor. Then he pulled out his scarf from his back pocket and placed it over his hat.
"Shhh" he commanded the crowd, putting a finger over his mouth. Then he proceeded to mouthing chants and inaudible strange words. When he was done, he pulled off the scarf, and a tiny dragon jumped out of the hat as a puff of green smoke filled everywhere.
The crowd roared in applause and cheers of excitement as they watched in bewilderment as the dragon gradually began to grow into a full-sized dragon. Their applause and cheers increased. They have never seen a magician do that before.
Suddenly what happened to be fun at first turned to chaos. As the dragon roared breathing out fire from its mouth. It shook its tail violently, knocking over the stage. The loud cheers turned to murmurs, tiny screams and cries from scared babies.
"Tommy, get over here?" Mrs Kenny called out to Tommy, who was stunned, staring at the dragon. To the magician, she asked, "Is that supposed to be normal?" Tommy's mum asked the magician.
"I don't know. It wasn't supposed to be this big. I must have cast the wrong spell" the magician replied, wide eyed and stumbling backwards.
“Run!” a kid screamed.
Immediately, the chaos grew as the partygoers ran towards different directions. Mothers calling their kids, and fathers calling their families. Everyone to what matters to them most at that point.
But as they ran, more green smoke puffed, and tiny goblin creatures jumped out of the hat. Then they grew to the size of a kid, cackling mischievously. They made for the food table, spilling it over, and throwing gift boxes at anyone they could get.
“We have to do something!” Tommy said turning to the magician.
"I can try to cast another spell to send them back but that would take a long and maybe before then they must have ruined everything"
"Then we keep them busy. This is my party and no one is permitted to ruin it!" Tommy said as he ran out, rallying around, trying to gather his friends who were brave enough.
"Be careful" his mum called out to him.
With that, they picked up their Nerf guns, water balloons and water guns. "First, we attack the cake thieves", Tommy commanded with so much willpower in his voice. They fired all the ammunition they could gather at the goblins gathered at the food table munching on their cupcakes and pies. The goblins, in return, fired back with cupcakes and cookies.
"What about the dragon?" Jake, Tommy's friend asked Tommy.
"Come with me," Tommy said to Jake. Then to the others, he commanded "Keep them busy while we handle the dragon"
With that, he charged towards the dragon with his foam sword, yelling like a warrior on a battlefield attacking the enemy with Jake coming behind. Their sword bent against the dragon's skin. Realising the sword stood no chance against the dragon.
"I've got an idea" Tommy announced.
He ran to the face painting stand in the garden. They filled a balloon with paint and aimed for the dragon's eyes. Then he threw the balloon hard towards its eyes, blinding the dragon. Then like Goliath falling in battle, the dragon tripped over and fell to the ground.
Meanwhile, in one corner of the garden, the magician wrestled with his spells. Casting spells upon spells to send hus creatures back into his cap, where it all came from.
"Come on!" He groaned as each spell failed.
"We can't keep them off any longer. What's your status, Mr Jeff?" Tommy asked running over to the magician.
"Just a minute," the magician said. Then he closed his eyes and chanted another spell with all he had in his heart.
Suddenly, there was a puff of green smoke, and in one poof, all the animals disappeared.
There were sighs of relief on everyone's face as they looked around the garden; everything was a mess. From smashed birthday cakes to, scattered birthday presents and destroyed stage.
"You did it", Tommy said to the tithe magician, who only nodded with a smile.
“This,” Jake said, slumping to the ground, “This is the best party ever.” then he laughed as all the other kids who just fought a battle against the mythical creatures joined him on the floor laughing.
"Yes, it is", Tommy concurred. "Although my cake's ruined"
Just then. Tommy's mum walked up to them "Not entirely. Who's up for some scraps?" She asked.
Without thinking twice, all the kids jumped up and scrambled for what was left of the cake happily.
Can you imagine this happening at a children's party? I think the children would be delighted with this magician! Reading fiction is amazing. Regards
