The ride home was quiet and the silence was almost louder than words. The cozy feeling from the air-conditioned car and the smell of fresh lavender to blend, almost sent me to sleep, but I had to get myself together.Ita was my boss at work. He had a firm look, together with an extended shoulder that carried his chubby looking body, just the way I liked my men. Though he was the kind of man I was naturally inclined to, this was a danger zone. For as long as I had known him, we kept it official. The sum total of all the minutes we spent together talking was definitely not up to sixty minutes.
I was a light sleeper. The slightest creak s was enough to usher me from my sleep into the real world. My phone vibration had woken me up. “Kindly see me once you're in the office” This was my boss’ message. What could be the issue? He had my number which was statutory, since we worked together in the same place, but he had never called. Anxiety had bitten me so hard in my stomach that I couldn't wait to have breakfast, just so I could get to work in time.
I wasted no time in getting to his office. As soon as I got there, he was already on the seat like I had presumed.” Good morning, Sir.”
“Good morning to you too. You look better today.”
Yes Sir, I am” refusing to look him in the eye.
“I hope you don't mind if we have breakfast together.”

Breakfast tasted really good, but not compared to the person before me. Even though he was my boss, somehow, in our little gossips, we had always declared how fortunate the woman who would win my boss’ heart would be. Away from his fierce look which we pardoned as an official face he wore to get things done, we knew there was a really good heart beneath. For one, when privy to any staff’s birthday, he was sure to treat you to a good lunch plus a bonus that would wow the celebrant.
One time, he left his diary in the conference room after a meeting, and out of curiosity as I flipped through the pages, I got trapped by his lofty plans for the woman he would spend His life with. His plans to set up a business for her depending on her interest, and even to travel the world with her and his regular surprises in-between. This increased my soft spot for him.
“ I have watched you for a while and I think I like you enough to start something with you”
My heart beat uncontrollably. I became tongue tied. I didn't realise I had travelled far in my thoughts that he had to tap me to bring me back.
“ Did you hear anything I said?” He asked
“Sure! Please give me time.”
I had all the time in the world. Enough time for us to begin dating, and I, firsthand, was caught in the embrace of his love. At work, I had to play the respectful surbodinate, just so I didn't raise brows of suspicion, but outside the walls of Royal, our company, I was the sweet lover girl enjoying the warmth of a relationship that brought light to my world.
Ita made sure I had a private ride to take me to work every morning since he couldn't drop me off because we had agreed to keep our love away from the eyes and lips of people in the office.At work, he found ways to leave romantic notes that calmed my nerves when the stress of the work got intense.

“How about a vacation to a choice place?” He asked me this in the middle of our Sunday date which had become a ritual since we started dating. I always looked forward to this date like a child longing for the mother's return. The field of the Rest Park close to his house had definitely gotten used to our presence. Going there was therapeutic. The tall trees that hid us from the world, and even the breeze there which caressed our bodies was heavenly.We stole every moment there to unwind and share lofty ideas of the life we hoped to have, and he serenaded my ears with words of how he would make me the most special woman in his world.
His question came as a big surprise, so I I begged him for time to think about it. I needed to ask my girls for the best place.
Memories of this trip can't leave my memories anytime soon. I woke up that morning to meet his absence. This was strange. There was no note whatsoever, and he didn't drop any SMS. I got worried for a while. I got dressed and checked for him by the pool where I knew he loved to sit. True to it, he was there.
“My love, I needed to relax a while. Pardon my disappearance?”
Who was I to get upset over something this trivial. I sat by his side and enjoyed his company for some hours.
I felt a sudden urge to use the restroom so I hurried to our room, and he joined me. I made to open the door immediately, only to meet the surprise of my life. I ran out almost immediately, looking for him, only to find him right behind me down on his knees. What was this? I couldn't get a grip of my emotions. I cried like some three year old.
The room had been decorated with red petals and balloons which flooded the room.His early disappearance now began to make sense. It was a plot to get me out in search of him so the room could be prepped for his big surprise.

“ Will you marry me?” Ita asked, with the firmest masculine voice I have ever heard.
I smiled uncontrollably even as tears trickled down. My joy was out of this world.
“Yes, I will” He gave me the tighest hug I have ever received in my life. This was love. I felt it so strong, and it was too palpable to be ignored.
If there was a love so true, then it was ours. Every single promise I had read in his diary that day had become my reality, and I basked in the warmth of his love.
