the fog begins to thicken like every night on June 6 and the windows and doors begin to close before 6 pm in all the houses in the town of hollow hills, the cold becomes more bristling and the feeling of loneliness makes the small town feel totally silent, a group of 3 teenagers steel themselves with courage despite being terrified to know what is happening in the town that day at that time.
one of them is a 15-year-old boy we'll call oliver says:
"I do not believe in legends or tales of the elderly and I know that many are terrified but I am not"
The second, Daniel and the oldest of the group at 17 years old is a little wiser and despite his fear he wants to stay with them to take care of them and he answers:
"I feel like it's a bad idea and that stories are stories for some reason, I'm terrified but it's better that I'm with you."
The youngest of the 3 is a 13-year-old girl, Camila.
"don't worry, I have my lucky charm with me and with that nothing will happen to us"
the girl in her innocence thinks that maybe everything is a fun game and she is not afraid at all, it is 5:58 in the afternoon and the 3 run out and into the mist that was beginning to form and oliver begins to feel chills in the body
"guys, I think this was not a good idea."
he says with his scared voice.
"But we are already far away to return and we must continue"
he says later with a little more courage.
"Calm down" says Daniel,
"stay close to me and nothing will happen to us"
Camila is smiling and having fun with what is happening, for her it is a game and she has nothing to feel afraid, her lucky charm protects her 5:59 in the afternoon, the mist begins to thicken and makes it a little harder for them to breathe because of the cold air that covers their bodies, but Camila doesn't seem to mind the cold that the mist brings.
The old people said that when 6 o'clock arrived you could hear crying far from the hollow hills and that the more terrified you were, the louder you could hear the crying. Locking themself in their houses with a lot of candlelight or fireplaces managed to keep the fog at bay. and thus spend the night and it was their way of protecting themselves.
6 in the afternoon arrive and immediately Oliver and Daniel begin to scream, cry, they scream they see a big mouth coming from the ground they realize that they are too far away to return and fear stuns them, leaving them immobile while the mouth start to swallow them as they scream louder and louder but Camila, calmly sees them and laughs, her laugh is strong and at the same time mockingly, the cries and screams that the people of the town hear every year are the same children who were trapped in the mist of the hollow hills and who themselves are the ones who maintain the legend of the cries and who, in reality, never existed in the hollow hills, camila and her lucky charm keep them in that endless cycle as she feeds her lucky charm on people's fear and the mist is her hungry breath of terror in the hollow hills.
