Lily's Love For Toast.

in The Ink Well9 months ago

"Mmmmm, this toast is absolute perfection!" Grinning, Lily took another large chunk of her buttery creation before exclaiming again. With every delectable bite, the warm, soft bread and the melted pat of butter gave her great pleasure and happiness.

Since she was a young child, Lily has been obsessed with toast. Little Lily would gladly eat the simplest toast, cooked to her exact specifications—a light golden brown with a schmear of butter melting on top—while other children pleaded for pizza or chicken nuggets. There was no greater meal or snack, in her opinion.

"Lily Grace Parker, didn't I just feed you lunch an hour ago?" When she saw her daughter wolf down yet another piece of toast at any given chance, her mother Martha would tsk-tsk. But Lily just laughed and carried on enjoying her favourite dish, which is fluffy and crunchy at the same time, without giving a thing.

She never lost her love for bread as she grew older. She would smuggle toast into the movies, make herself a beautiful toast breakfast before class, and even pack a portable toaster for out-of-town travels in case the hotel or restaurants couldn't exactly replicate her cherished toast perfection. She would do all of this throughout her time in school.

"You're going to turn into a piece of toast one day!" Lily's relatives and friends would make jokes. They had no idea how prophetic those statements would turn out to be.

When Lily was twenty-five years old, she was scrolling through her typical avocado toast for lunch when she came across a video of a man participating in a toast-eating competition. Excited, she spit out her bite right away.

"A competition to devour toast? "Why wasn't I aware of these earlier?" she asked herself. She decided to show off her toast skills on a large platform after learning about the world of competitive eating via research.

It was a difficult first toast-eating challenge for her. After just ten slices of toast, Lily was sick to her stomach from the pressure, the fans, and the sheer amount of toast. It didn't stop her though. Lily rose through the ranks with hard exercise, appropriate hydration, and learning how to increase the capacity of her stomach.

"Honey, this obsession with toast has gone too far!" Greg, Lily's spouse, would object, worried about her well-being. But she would just shrug him off and carry on with her training.

Lily became one of the top toast consumers in the world after three years of intense competitions against the world's most voracious eaters. At last, she had reached the grandest occasion of all - the Fourth of July at New York City's Nathan's Famous Buttered Toast Competition.

Lily took a deep breath and held her husband's hand as she took her position at the renowned long table, surrounded by plates stacked high with gently buttered white bread toast. All her life, she had been anticipating and planning for this very moment.

As the 10-minute clock began to run, the thousands in attendance yelled her name, "LILY! LILY! LILY!" to the contest host. Lily drank a fast sip of water and began devouring the first few pieces with gusto. As is her hallmark style, she dipped one slice into a cup of melted butter and soaked it first.

Before her, a platter vanished, followed by another. She banged on the toast like a competing athlete, sweat streaming down her face. Unaffected by anyone in the vicinity, Lily was totally absorbed in her own world.

Only the top three eaters were busily putting away toast with only one minute remaining. With every fierce, wide-mouthed bite from Lily, the audience let forth a yell. Finally, the announcer yelled, "30 seconds remaining".

Lily, utterly full, took one more large chunk before putting her hands down on the table. The audience let out loud applause and began screaming her name once more. In just ten minutes, she had gobbled an astounding 62 slices of bread, creating a new world record!

Her eyes welled up with tears of happiness when she was pronounced the victor and given a huge winner's belt. Her spouse hurried to give her a hug, expressing immense pride in her commitment and outstanding accomplishment.

Lily the Toast Girl was permanently etched in the annals of competitive eating history on that fateful day. She would never view toast in the same way again, but her enduring passion for the unassuming morning dish is what made her successful. Finally, let's toast to royalty.

I also love toast bread

Glad you do

There are passions that become a driving force in life that makes us achieve our dreams. In the end the girl achieved success with great struggle and sacrifice.

Thanks for sharing your story.
Good day.

Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed reading

This is nicely told. A little bit of humor helps. The inclusion of the Nathan's eating contest is great. Comedic--toast instead of hot dogs.

The love of toast is pushed to the absurd, but you acknowledge that in your story.

Thanks for reading.
Actually it wasn't AI, I usually use a grammar checker to correct some errors and wrong spellings, sometimes it's gives another word for me to use. Could that be why?
Thanks for curating too
