Caging the Flame
They plot
Trying to hold on
To what they've got
Wailing and flailing
To strike down the hot 🔥
These fools are the masters
But they know not
The forces they fan
Nor the plan we've wrought
These flames, you see,
We seem so enraged
Fires and desires
So connivingly staged
A new lesson taught
You ought not engage
These flames, you see,
Cannot be caged
This piece was born out of a call I made on twitter and d.buzz asking for a prompt. The above photo was given in response. I thought the idea of a caged flame was interesting so I went with it.
The metaphor came to mind of a resistance and how we as a species often react badly to it. A specific example that came to mind was the hedge fund/wall street bets situation in the news. They tipped their hand in getting the platforms to shut down communication lines for the effort. All they've really done is galvanize the sentiment of the resisters. Like putting a cage around a flame, the measures are short lived and the fire will only spread.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Cool! I love how one image can represent different things to different people. Though I love the metaphor you found, when I sent the fire I was only thinking of heat on a cold night. 🔥
