Gaining admission into college brought a lot of people together, people from different backgrounds, people who attended the best high school, and those who attended just any high school were brought together as well, and that is what makes college fun. You get to meet people with different mentalities, those who see things the samge as you and those who see the complete opposite of what you do. In college you get to meet people you are highly compatible with and those who are the complete opposite of you, and there is no way you guys will work.
Getting to college, I got to meet a few people I was compatible with, and we became close friends, but then there was a guy called Chinedu, a very jovial guy who was friends with everyone and teased everyone at the given opportunity. He was one guy that was never serious; even when everybody was extremely scared or pressured by tests and exams, Chinedu still had the time to joke and play around.
A tutorial was organized by our senior colleagues, and almost everyone was in attendance because of the fear of failing, but Chinedu was not, and instead, at the end of the tutorial, he was busy teasing and making jokes about those that came, and that day many people labeled him an unserious student and one that does not take anything seriously.
"That Chinedu guy is very annoying; imagine what he was saying after not attending the tutorial." Dera, my friend, called to complain.
"No need to get angry or annoyed by what he is saying; we already know that is just his type of person; he jokes with everything." I responded, trying to calm him down.
"Do you know that this action of his will actually discourage people from coming to tutorial next time? How mocked everyone that attended because I don't consider all that he said as a joke; it was mockery." Dera responded with a tone.
"You have to calm down, bro; don't let it get to you. Whoever wants to attend the tutorial will attend; what Chinedu said has nothing to do with whether they will attend or not." I responded, still trying to make sure he calms down and lets it go.
"Let's just wait and see results first because he is doing too much. As much as he is the life of the party, it should have a limit." Dera continued complaining.
"Broooo, you are going too far, and are you wishing him bad because of what he did? Just let it go, bro." I advised
"I am not wishing him bad, but what he did really got to me, but it is all in the past now." Derra, he said as he hung up.
We all continued to do all that was expected of us as we prepared for the forthcoming examination. "You guys do too much; give yourself a break, rest; it is just an exam, not a determinant for success." Chinedu said as we met him on our way to tutorial, and he was on his way to a football field.
"If you don't want to be serious, don't try to discourage those that want to be serious." Dera responded without even giving him the space.
"Don't take life too seriously; make time for jokes and rest. I was only joking." Chinedu said as we parted ways.
A few days later we started exams, and everything went well, and now we all looked forward to seeing our results. About a month later, results were out and pasted in front of the department; everyone was shocked to see Chinedu as one of those with the best results. He even did better than many people who showed seriousness and went for tutorials. We did judge him by his character and did not see him as one of those that would top the class, but he shocked us and proved that he might not look and act like the sharpest tool in the shed, but he is actually smart.
I enjoyed reading you, appearances can be deceiving, in times of stress it is very good to rest and relax, without neglecting our responsibilities. Greetings.
People have different ways of learning, those we view as unserious might be best students just like Chinedu. Nice story!
