Exactly what the doctor administered.

I knocked on the door and heard “coming from inside”. Entering , I saw my uncle Mr Zulikaleni sitting down in his favorite lounge as he wore an Agenda (wide sleeve robe ) as usual. Today , he looked as bright as the sun and I had never seen him in such happy mode in five years. I greeted prostrating as the native yoruba greet in Nigeria “ Ekaaro sir” which means good morning sir. He answered “Bawo ni , kaabo” which means “ how are you , you are welcome”. He said ,” come closer and sit here little brother. I have a gist to tell you today, Even though I have not been administered by a doctor or visited a therapist lately , the feeling of being light has fallen farther from within”. “ I changed automatically as I know that this heavy heart felt burden has left and now I am getting back to myself” , Uncle Zulikaleni uttered.

“It must be what the doctor or therapist will administer”, he said to me boldly hitting his chest with his left arm and continued. My little son , Shifau came to me lately and said, "Father, you are now going back to the old self who loves life”. I just smiled and said to him that it is just the starting point from the day henceforth.

I asked my Uncle "what took him off the lane , made him unhappy and struck him down heavily for five years now“?
This time , he decided to tell me the story about his rise and fall and lesson.

I sat beside him on a chair to learn from his experience as he poured his heart out. “The first thing that hit me big time was having trust in people and loving them without knowing that their vivid act is just different values from their interior motives and their ulterior motives. I had to learn this in a hard way as different significance which revolves around showcased this” he concluded.

He gaps and continued, “I have to sit myself down and reasoned if I am to continue like this which triggered the evidence of consciousness vividly on me from the climax of the pain hitting my heart with heartache simultaneously and simultaneously” he said nodding his head.

This time around , he looked at me seriously and I also modded in recognition to show him that I am attentive to his stories.

He uttered this emotionally as I saw pain in his eyes ,”The first storm was after the accident which took my left arm , my wife , Mama Shifau rang out alarmingly at the hospital that she can no longer marry to a one armed man and left Shifau , my son for me as a baby”. This time he just shook his head not in pity but in oblivion that his wife could be inconsiderate.

Now I know the source of my Uncle's pains are heartbreak and loss of lost one.
I soliloquize myself. Then he continues, “after I was discharged from hospital, my mother , your grandma took charge to take care of my son and took care of me during these years”. It was this time I lost my job and all my friends too as I couldn't go to work and spend on them as I usually do.

It was during this time that I saw motherly love. Uncle Zulikaleni smirked. I kept following his body moving to note all what he meant to pass down to me as the dialogue is considered and he continues.

“But to my surprise after losing hope in trust and love . I couldn't believe it was still the same trust and love that ease my pain. After healing from the accident and getting better, I asked myself after a deep self-talk to myself that when will I continue like this, looking at myself in the mirror, broken , mentally depressed and mentally drained”.

It was now seven years ago that the incident happened and since then I have been to hospital twice for counseling and I was always told that for me to heal , I will have to take good care of myself ,forgive myself , trust the universe and give love a chance.

By this time my uncle smiled at me knowing well that I was young and I don't have a vivid experience of love and touched my shoulder then continued his heart felt experience purging.

He said, “ I decided to heal myself when I looked at the mirror six months ago, noticing that I have lost weight, looked terrible and my health has declined”. “If I continue like this , I will just die and be a failed father for Shifau, my son and the family at large so I decided to fight for my life and start from where I stopped”. He concluded.

I looked at him critically and meticulously thinking why was he not thinking of this ever since and always drinking himself to stupor every time for years before finally healing. My father told me he has changed and he has stopped drinking and smoking. Taking good care of himself is now essential to him and changing for better is now his new talks and that I should pay him a visit and that is why I was there.

It was worth it , it was the first time I saw uncle Zulikaleni leaving in his true state showing me his amputated arm and the scar, the inside dent on his heart, with his wife leaving him when he was at rock bottom.

I was happy for him though . I left him that day and after six months, I heard that he has another lady who is ready to marry him knowing he has an amputated arm with a child and they got married a year later.

Really , it was what the doctor must have prescribed but he was the one that was adamant and didn't want to heal before now. The change for growth elevated him to betterment and a happy life.
