Cleverness
When I was a fifth year student at the Liceo Antonio José de Sucre, in Cumaná, Venezuela, I had a group of friends: Aracelys, Elena, Alexa, Rut, Andrés and Pedro. In our free time, we used to sit on concrete seats with small tables made of the same material located in the green areas of this institution. On Friday afternoon, when I was on my way home I thought of asking my mother to buy a chess set, but when I got home and saw her at her sewing machine doing her sewing crafts, I regretted that thought that crossed my mind, I approached her with much gentleness I gave her a kiss on her forehead, she hugged me and said:
"‘I love you, at the dining table I served you your dinner."
"Thank you, mother, I'm fainting from hunger" I sat down and tasted the food with a big appetite. Then I said goodbye.
‘Blessing, see you tomorrow, I have a lot of studying to do.’

When I got to my room, I took a bath and changed. Then I took a piece of cardboard and measured it so that it was 8 square meters, then with a ruler I distributed on it 8 columns and 8 rows. The columns are numbered from 1 to 8, and the rows from A to H. The columns and rows represent the squares in black and white. Taking care that the square where ‘H’ goes is black, in order to start the chess game.
Once I have done this with a few sticks of cerra crayons, I stuck to each of them with a glue the figures that I designed on paper: the 4 rooks, 2 knights, 2 Alfires, 8 pawns. 2 queens, 2 kings. On the bottom of each wax bar I stuck a small cardboard, so that the figure could stand up and slide it.
On Sunday Aracelys came to my house. She was my friend from school, I love her like a sister and she knows how to play chess. We talked for a while and I told her:
"I invite you to my room to see what I have designed’’.
She followed me and when I showed her the chess set I had designed, she replied:
"How ingenious you are, I invite you to a game between the two of us".
Very cheerful, I added.:
"Well,"
We started to play and after a while I gave her checkmate, she asked me in surprise:
"Who taught you?"
I replied:
" Am self-taught in this teaching".
She, very happy, smiled, then we said goodbye.
On Monday when we went back to school, that day we left school at 10am. We immediately went to the green areas, Alexa and Rut climbed up to the highest part of the Uvero de playa tree, they were hugging its trunk like two sloths. When we were all seated Aracelys said:

Aracelys replies:
"‘Let's give her a chance, let her play several games with each of us."

¿¡Who else signs up to play with me¡?. Elena signed up and we started the game and soon after I gave her checkmate and so were most of them, they didn't see the light. The only thing missing was Ruth, very excited, she said:
"I give up!"
We all burst out laughing and went home.

Cuando estudiaba quinto año en el Liceo Antonio José de Sucre, en Cumaná, Venezuela, tenía un grupo de amigos: Aracelys, Elena, Alexa, Rut y Andrés. En nuestro tiempo libre, solíamos sentarnos en asientos de concreto con mesitas del mismo material ubicados en las áreas verdes de esta institución. En esta área, había una gran variedad de plantas, entre ellas el árbol del vinagre, que daba frutos agridulces, los cuales disfrutábamos. Había otros árboles de uvero de playa, y uvero extranjero. También nos subimos a estos árboles para disfrutar del néctar de estos frutos. También jugamos al dominó, un juego que me gustó mucho. A la mayoría del grupo le gustaba más el ajedrez. Yo no sabía jugar, pero me encantaba ponerme detrás de mis compañeros con el propósito de observar para aprender. En ese contexto disfrutábamos de los momentos que compartíamos durante el día en las actividades educativas.
El viernes por la tarde, cuando iba camino a casa pensé en pedirle a mi madre que comprara un juego de ajedrez, pero cuando llegué a casa y la vi en su máquina de coser haciendo sus manualidades de costura, me arrepentí de ese pensamiento que cruzó por mi mente, me acerqué a ella muy gentilmente le di un beso en la frente, ella me abrazó y me dijo:
"Te quiero, en el comedor te he servido la cena".
"Gracias, madre, me desmayo de hambre". Me senté y probé la comida con mucho apetito. Luego me despedí.
«Bendición, nos vemos mañana, tengo mucho que estudiar".
"Que Dios te acompañe. Feliz noche."
Cuando llegué a mi habitación, me bañé y me cambié. Luego cogí un trozo de cartón y lo medí para que tuviera 8 metros cuadrados, después con una regla distribuí en él 8 columnas y 8 filas. Las columnas están numeradas del 1 al 8, y las filas de la A a la H. Las columnas y las filas representan los cuadrados en blanco y negro. Teniendo cuidado de que la casilla donde va la 'H' sea negra, para poder empezar la partida de ajedrez.
Una vez hecho esto con unos palitos de cera crayones, pegué a cada uno de ellos con un pegamento las figuras que diseñe en papel: las 4 torres, 2 caballos, 2 alfiles, 8 peones. 2 reinas, 2 reyes. En la parte inferior de cada barra de cera pegué un pequeño cartón, para que la figura pudiera ponerse de pie y deslizarla.
El domingo Aracelys vino a mi casa. Era mi amiga del colegio, la quiero como a una hermana y sabe jugar al ajedrez. Hablamos un rato y le dije:
'Te invito a mi habitación para que veas lo que he diseñado'".
Me siguió y cuando le enseñé el ajedrez que había diseñado, me contestó:
"Qué ingenioso eres, te invito a una partida entre los dos".
Muy alegre, añadí.
"Bueno",
Empezamos a jugar y al poco rato le di jaque mate, ella me preguntó sorprendida:
"¿Quién te ha enseñado?"
Le contesté:
"Soy autodidacta en esta enseñanza"
Ella, muy contenta, sonrió, luego nos despedimos.
El lunes cuando retornamos a clases, ese día salimos de clases a las 10 de la mañana De inmediato nos fuimos a las áreas verdes, Alexa y Rut se subieron a la parte más alta del árbol de Uvero de playa estaban abrazadas a su tronco similares a dos perezas. Mientras tanto pedro y Andres subieron a la de uvero extranjero, desde allá comenzaron a lanzarnos uvero.
Elena y Aracelys sacaron su tablero de ajedrez y se pusieron a jugar, yo me coloqué detrás de Elena para observar su jugada. Aracelys le dio un jaque mate a Elena. Los que estaban en los árboles bajaron, para unirse a jugar ajedrez.
Cuando estábamos todos sentados Aracelys dijo:
“¿Qué les parece si invitamos a Ramona a jugar” Ellos en unísono dijeron
“Ella no sabe jugar”
Aracelys replica:
“Vamos a darle una oportunidad, de que juegue varios partidos con cada uno de nosotros”
Comencé el primer partido con Andrés, todos estaban sorprendidos de la destreza con que movía las piezas, mis manos parecían como las de una araña cuando teje su telaraña, al poco tiempo le di jaque mate. Allí se formó una algarabía. Andrés dijo:
“Me he quedado estupefacto con esa jugada de Ramona, La felicito”
“ ¡Gracias!”
Luego todos me abrazaron, demostrando su alegría, Elena me preguntó:
“¿Cómo lo lograste? pensé que no aprenderías. Eres muy inteligente “
Muy emocionada le respondí:
“¡Secretos que tiene uno! ¡Me fijé un propósito de aprender a jugar ajedrez, a través de la observación, mi astucia, y siguiendo las reglas de esa disciplina lo logré!”
"¿¡Quien mas se anota para jugar conmigo?". Elena se anotó y comenzamos el partido al poco tiempo le di jaque mate y así fueron la mayoría, no vieron luz. Solo faltaba Rut muy emocionada dijo:
“¡Me rindo¡”.
Todos largamos una carcajada y nos marchamos a nuestras casas.
