A perfect match

Relationship or marriage is a sacred thing, and one must be careful when making choices about who to spend the rest of your life with. As the common saying goes, marriage is an institution where you learn new things every day; you never stop learning until death does one part. This means one must be prepared physically, emotionally, financially, and psychologically to face whatever comes with marriage. No one is perfect and this is the bitter truth many of us refuse to believe. We all want a perfect man and woman who would give us peace of mind and hopefully provide for us without stress yet we aren't ready to make sacrifices that would bring to visibility all the attributes or characteristics we want in our relationships.

When I listen to people's testimonies of what they had sacrificed to make their relationship or marriage work and stand the test of time. I listen to positive reviews, which make me want to have a peaceful marriage too, but a typical example I can proudly say I've seen is my parents. Those two are a match made in heaven. Their love story is so fascinating, and their journey from friends to lovers, which ended in marriage, is a good one to behold. When I started my first ever relationship, I asked my parents how their story began and those two can be so funny and dramatic.

"Mom, how and where did you meet Dad?" I asked my mom one afternoon after lunch when every one of us was sitting in the living room.

Immediately I asked this question, and my siblings began to make funny gestures because they knew they were in for laughter that afternoon.

"You should have directed that question to me, not your mom. She wouldn't want to tell you the truth so that you won't make jest of her, but I will tell you the whole truth", my dad quickly replied.

"What is there to hide? Why won't I tell them the truth? It's not as if I was the first to fall in love", my mom replied.

"So who was the first to love then, you better don't let me spill the beans", my dad countered.

"I was the one that asked a question; you've not replied to me yet. We are all waiting", I said, pointing to the rest of my siblings, who were already laughing.

"Your mom fell in love with a cute boy from her childhood. It's love at first sight, and then she was a small girl at that time", my dad replied.

"What are you saying? Don't give the children the wrong impression, please, mister", my mom objected.

"Don't mind your dad, I escorted my cousin to a wedding ceremony when I was eight years old and fortunately I met him there and just wanted to be a friend as at that time and he wasn't even cute, he was one rough boy I just decided to take pity on", my mom replied.

"At eight years old, you were eyeing a cute nigga", my sister interrupted.

"I told you she fell in love with me since day one, you know I won't lie", my dad said jokingly.

"After that day, I never saw him again, but I wish to see him though, but then, we were young, I had no will of my own. But as God will have it, I met him in a higher institution, a college of education; to be precise, he was my senior. He was about to graduate when I got admission", my mom explained.

"Aw, isn't this lovely?" my younger brother said as we all laughed out loud.

"Immediately, you grabbed your man before he disappeared again, right?" I asked.

"He loved me too; he can't deny that; he wouldn't let such a beautiful young lady slide away from him, so he made a move" " Mom further said.

"But you were a lot into me than I am; she was always posting around me. She always blocks other ladies' access to me", my dad said jokingly.

"After he graduated, he travelled to Minna, where he worked with the Coca-Cola company, and fortunately, I gained admission into Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria which makes seeing him very easy. After my first year, he also gained admission into the same university. Although he wasn't stable on the school campus because of his work then, we were closer to each other and from there, we grew a strong bond to what produced you all today", my mom concluded with a bright smile.

"What a wonderful beginning; your story is so lovely, although we don't get to see much in this present generation of ours", I said.

My parents are like twins, they do everything together, and each of them always seems to understand and know what the other wants to say even before saying it. They are so close that even though they have misunderstandings, it's not known to the children, which makes us wonder if they ever fight. They are perfect for each other, and they make it seem like marriage is a bed of roses; well for them, it is because they enjoy each other's company and keep a healthy relationship.

Thanks for your time, and your comments will be appreciated.

Its beautiful to see that even after so many years, their fondness for each other hasn't diminished. They both look beautiful together.

Nowadays it is difficult to find relationships as beautiful and healthy as the one your parents have, that is worthy of praise. Very nice experience you share with us.

Aww, I had goosebumps reading this; I love the bond your parents share even after these years.

I'm learning from this. Love is beautiful when we meet the right person, they will make us feel more of ourselves when we are around them.
