"Iya ayo(Ayo's mom) you have to help me take good care of this girl. She is all I have; I don't want her to feel that she has no mother. She knows you are her grandma, but yet I want her to have that motherly love just the way you brought up me and my siblings", Ayo said to her mother.
Ayo and Ruth had been married for seven years, and they had a five-year-old daughter together before Ruth decided to file for a divorce. She no longer wants to live or have anything to do with her husband Ayo. After a lot of persuasion from Ayo for her to stay because of their child Rihanna, Ruth was still obstinate about leaving, and Ayo had no option but to sign the divorce papers and get separated. Due to the nature of Ayo's profession as a medical doctor, he is not that chanced to take proper care of Rihanna after her mother leaves. He decided to hire a nanny but he wasn't contented with the way the nanny was handling his daughter. Then he decided to take Rihanna to his mother so that she could be well taken care of.
"I will come every two weeks to check on her and I will be sending allowances for her upkeep. You don't have to worry, Mom", Ayo explained to his mother.
"Ayokunle, you have to get married as soon as possible. Since Ruth has left, don't turn yourself to a father; look out there and find me a good and well-mannered lady who will take good care of you and Rihanna. I'm sure you've not been feeding well, so also, my girl here, you are buying all these restaurant foods that are not for her", Ayo's mother said.
"Iya Ayo (Ayo's mother), I've heard all you said. I will look into it, I'm sure Rihanna will be good here with you and as for me, you don't have to worry, I will be fine. Let me be on my way, I don't want to get stuck on the road. I'm on the night shift", Ayo said as he stood up, picked Rihanna from his mother's lap, and hugged her.
"My baby, don't disturb grandma and be a good girl. I will come and check on you soon, okay?" Ayo said to Rihanna.
"Okay, Daddy, you will come with mummy, right?" Rihanna asked.
"Don't worry, my girl; Daddy loves you," Ayo said and left.
Rihanna grew up to become a beautiful young lady with the help of her grandma and her father. After her secondary school education, she gained admission into a higher institution. As she was going about her registration, she met a woman who came with her daughter because of her age to assist her in her registration, too, but something happened that left Rihanna with some unanswered questions. Rihanna resembles this woman with some physical traits like her eyeballs, nose, body complexion, and facial. The woman kept looking at Rihanna, so also is Rihanna. After completing her registration that day, Rihanna left, but the image of the woman she met at the registration center was still boldly printed in her brain. She then decided to call her father.
"My love, how has been your day? Are you still at work?", Rihanna said to her father.
"My baby girl, I'm fine and I'm almost done for the day. Are you done with your registration? How was it?", Ayo asked his daughter.
"It was fine, Dad. I just got back to my hostel, and that's why I called you. I met a woman at the registration center today; she came with her daughter. There is something about that woman, Dad, we look alike; if you see her and I tell you she's my mother, you won't argue because the resemblance is just too much, whereas she is a stranger", Rihanna explained to her father.
"Did you have a chat with the woman in question?", Ayo asked.
"No, Dad, she was just staring at me, but I felt like talking to the woman; some part of me wanted to talk to her, but I couldn't bring myself to. I left immediately after I completed my registration", Rihanna said.
"That's okay; God created us in twos. That might be your twin sister but an older version of you. Don't overthink it and focus on your studies; call me if you need anything, and remember to call grandma", Ayo said and hung up.
"I called...., geez, dad hung up already? This man should not get chilling pills(this man is not patient). I was the one that called, not you, at least you will let me finish talking before hanging up", Rihanna said as she dropped the phone. Just as she was trying to cook noodles for herself, she heard a noise coming from the next room. The room is vacant since she packed in, she went outside to see who was making such noise. To her surprise, it was the woman she met at the registration center with her daughter moving her luggage into the room.
"What's with this woman? Why do I feel like I knew her somewhere? Her face looks so familiar, should I ask her? What if she thinks I'm being rude? Why do I feel a connection with her?" Rihanna kept asking herself different questions, and she went back to her room.
Later that evening, Rihanna called her grandma, who raised her, to tell her about the strange woman that looked like her.
"Rihanna baby, we as humans are created in twos; that's an elderly version of you," Grandma said.
"You and Dad are saying the same thing. Is that even possible? Grandma, I want to ask a question; you have to promise to reply to me honestly", Rihanna said.
"Rihanna, go ahead with your question, and do you mean I did lie before? An adult doesn't lie, ask your question baby", Grandma replied.
"Grandma, where is my mom?", Rihanna asked.
"I know that's going to be your question; as I had said before, your mother is in America; she traveled out of the country when you were little," Grandma replied.
"She traveled out and forgot she had a daughter and a husband? Not even a call from her all these years. Why is that grandma? Did she hate us that much to have forgotten we exist?
"My baby, I can't answer all these questions. I had no idea, but I believe she will come back soon", Grandma replied.
"Soon indeed, when I am of marriageable age, right, or when I am born? No problem, Grandma, I will keep my questions till I see her; I pray that's possible. Hope you are taking your drugs, be fine for me, you know I love you, right?" Rihanna said to her grandma.
"I will be fine, my baby; thank you, honey; study and eat well, okay? Bye", Grandma said and hung up.
"My dad and his mother are just the same; they like hanging up first," Rihanna said with a smile.
As Rihanna journeyed through her education in the higher institution, she met this strange woman quite often because she came to check on her daughter, but each time she came and saw Rihanna, she was always staring and looking like she had something to say to Rihanna but couldn't bring herself to say them till Rihanna graduated and left the school.

Kids are always watching, till the day they would come up to you and ask questions they've been meaning to ask then you'd be surprised if this child had been listening all these while.
This is why doing things in front of kids thinking they are not seeing you is wrong.
A story with many unanswered questions. The girl never knew if that strange woman was her mother or what connection she might have with that woman.

The prompt is about unanswered questions. This however, is not an invitation to leave the reader with unanswered questions. It's a good idea to wrap a story up with a resolution. In this case, the conflict arose when the girl noticed a woman who resembled her. Was this the girl's mother? That conflict should be resolved in some way by the end of the story. That would be a complete story arc.
