Two years was a long time and a lot could happen within that period.
There are indeed a lot of things that could happen in between those two years, but if they're committed to each other, then they could have resorted to long-distance relationships. However, it's hard because trust is really a must if they're willing to compromise... I guess they opted for the less dragging option—and that's to let go and let fate do the work.
