Loud giggles emanated from upstairs followed by soft chattering. The two girls became aware of their environment and toned down their voices to avoid their parents walking in on their conversation. Nail polish were littered on the floor and soft music played at the background in the room.

Amanda and Naomi took turns in painting their nails while devising a way to sneak out to a sleepover at their friend’s place that night. The bedroom was like a typical teenage room with two beds, two dressing tables and every other necessity.
There weren’t twins but acted and lived as one; it was just a slight one-year age gap between them. Matthew, the new boy in their school; Leads High was their topic of discussion and their blush was enough evidence that they had a crush on him.
“Have you had a conversation with him? I heard he’s really funny and friendly. I wonder how his voice sounds like?” Naomi daydreamed of having a lunch date with him while he professes his undying love to her.
The girls were known for having an unending love for romance novels and being infatuated with the male lead character. Tons of books were situated on their bookshelf; majority left opened probably waiting to be read and red.
“Well, while I was walking out of the bathroom last week Tuesday our eyes met. It got so awkward that I had to apologise, that counts as a conversation right?” Amanda wiggled her eyebrows at her.
Naomi nudged a pillow on her head and it erupted in a pillow fight. Sooner or later, they were running around, laughing loudly.
Loud voices from the living room put a stop to their antics, they passed each other a knowing look and sighed.
“I wish our family was like every other one. This is mentally draining. I’m sick and tired of mom and dad’s fight every night!” Naomi exclaimed.
Mom and Dad had never agreed on something together and it always resulted into a major argument that lasts a whole week. Their kids were already tired of their unending fights and they had decided to go to college in a different state when their done with High School.
“I have thought of what could be the cause of their fights but I can't think of anything. I wish they can just stop, if only they knew this whole thing has affected us greatly perhaps they’d get their act together.” She face palmed, locking the door.
The girls threw in their pyjamas into a duffel bag. They looked stressed and couldn’t wait to get away from their parents even if it was for one night. Amanda looked at a picture frame near the bedside; it was a picture of their parents, her mom held Naomi in her hands and Amanda held unto the hands of her father.
Both parents looked happy and she cracked her head trying to figure out what transpired between two people that once loved each other. While growing up, their childhood was fun and loving at the same time.
Dad usually spent time with them more than his work and they always had a vacation every three months but now they quarrelled every week.
“I miss the beautiful moments where we all laughed and spent quality time with one another. It was amazing. Now no one even remembered my birthday was last week.” Naomi muttered, drawing her arms closer to herself. She missed her mom who held her every night when she was scared, the woman who cared for her when she fell ill and the woman who was always ready to spend time with them.
“I can't even trace the last good memory we had. The bad ones have outshined the good ones, like it never existed.” Amanda sighed.
Their voices grew louder, there was a bang on the door followed by the shattering of a plate. Both girls looked at themselves scared. During their quarrels, they have never gotten violent so the noise came as a surprise.
Amanda slightly opened the door and Naomi joined to listen to their conversation.
“I don't want to cater for you and your daughters anymore. You have ruined my life!” Michael shouted, dragging out his hair. He looked extremely mad and frustrated.
“Don’t you dare say such things Michael. I and your daughters are one of the best things that has ever happened you!” Mom warned. Her year bulged with anger.
“Best things? I told you I never wanted to have kids but you went along to adopt those girls and I realised I made the worst decision by letting them into my house. I have lost everything because I’m taking care of someone else’s children!”
Amanda felt like she was stabbed in the heart over and over again. Meanwhile, Naomi was numb, still trying to process everything.
“I can’t believe you just said that. Those girls are innocent and it isn’t their fault they were abandoned.”
“I don’t care. I want you all out of this house first thing tomorrow.” Michael grabbed his keys from the coffee table and drove out.
Mom ran after him in tears, hoping to see if she could fix her family and bring it back to how it was but Michael had already turned down the streets.
“We aren’t going for a sleepover anymore Naomi, we’re leaving for good.”
Naomi nodded in affirmation.

This is just so sad
I wish Micheal hasn’t said those words in anger
I understand he was angry but saying that to his adopted kids
Damn
That’s why too much
I understand him but he has anger issues
I enjoyed reading the story I did not know I was already close to the end
If those girls leave, what will happen to their mother.
