My High School Experience

Greetings!

"Who chose you to be the senior prefect." Was the word that came out from my mathematics teacher, mr Ojo when I was in my final class in the secondary school.

It's in SS 2, second term when the management and staff of my school chose me as the senior prefect of my school. This was the normal custom of my school back then, that when it's second term and before the second term examination to choose those people that will replace the outgoing SS 3 prefects. As luck would had it on me, I was selected to be the head boy of my school against all odds. Though, not the most brilliant student in my class, but I was chosen not based on academics alone, but all other grounds that qualified me to become the SP.

After I was selected as the head boy, the principal of my school charged me and all other prefects by
saying,

" congratulations to you all, as you all know that you are part of the few chosen to be the ambassador of this great citadel of learning, I want to charge all of you to be good representatives of this school." After he has said his words, we all chorused by saying to him,

"thank you sir." We applauded his speech and left his office for our various classes.

So, the following morning, we were being called out for recognition on the assembly. This has always been the normal custom in my school that whenever the prefects names have been compiled the previous day, the following day would be the day that those compiled names would be reeled out for recognition and in calling the names, the portfolio of each names called would also be made known to the entire students and the members of staff.

So, before the names were being called upon, the VP administration came forward and said,

"as we all know that, the SS3 are already writing their SSCE and are outgone already, we the management of the school have come out with these sets of compiled names to the lead and represent the school, we've checked their academic performances plus their characters and all of them were found worthy to be selected prefects of this great institute of learning, So, in a moment, I will be calling their names and when you hear their names, try and give them a round of applause."

Since I have got to the school at the age of 10, that has always been the voice of Mr Adigun, who's been saddled with this great responsibility as the VP administration of the school.

Not quite long, the names of the prefect were being called out with their portfolio, and as it's always been, the name of the times keeper was the first on the list down to the name of the head boy which happened to be called with special attention. Now, I will go back to the voice of Mr Adigun which says,

"Now, we are now go to called the name.of the first student of this great school who would hence doubles as the great ambassador of the school, His name.... Akintade Samson Olajide."

When people heard my name, they were very happy and this is because of nothing else, but because of my good relationship with all the students and staff members of the school.

So, immediately after the assembly, people, both the students and the staffs were coming in my direction just to congratulates me, the first person that came to me was my English teacher, Mr Olujobi. Mr Olujobi embraced me and said,

" Sam, I'm happy for you, but you must know that, this is a call to duty." It's then I responded by saying " yes, I know, just keep on praying for me sir." He then replied that." I have always been praying for you, but now I will double my prayer just for you."

So, almost all the teachers and the students congratulated me except my Mathematics teacher in the person of mr Ojo who was not happy with my selection as the head boy of the school.

Now, after everything and in the course of the term as we the prefects were exercising our duty, Mr Ojo was always coming after me, just to pick out my fault. There's a day he gave us a classwork and in the class work, I was unable to get the steps right, So, seeing this, the next thing that came out of his mouth was that,

" who even chose this one as the head boy."

That day, I was ashamed of myself, but there's nothing I could do. But it's later I got to know that I was not the only one that did not get the steps right, in fact, i was the only that made a reasonable attempt to the question. Though, this got me angry, but being my teacher, there's nothing i could do, than to keep on respecting him. This his attitude only made me strong at the end.

We have curated your post but would like to make a few points about the curation. There are multiple errors in usage present in this blog. In the future it would benefit your work if you ran it through Google Docs or Grammarly for correction of punctuation and grammar. Keep in mind that we only allow basic correction of grammar and punctuation. We do not allow the use of these programs for word choice or for editing a piece other than simple grammar corrections. To use the greater editing option would be to use AI, and we do not allow that. Hello @samolaj,

Also, we do note that you comment on other writers' work. However your comments are not meaningful. We expect writers to read the work of others and to give meaningful feedback that reflects a careful reading of the story.

We hope you keep these points in mind as you write for the community in the future.
