An editor may benefit anyone, not only speakers of other languages. At its most basic, an editor may help with proof reading.
But many writers here are using Google Translate, or another similar machine translator, and it does terrible things to their writing. The syntax is mangled, pronouns are interchanged, words are substituted which the writer never intended. Often, as English readers, we can interpret the intention of the writer from the context, but sometimes I have read translated paragraphs so distorted that I am not able to unravel what the writer is saying (and it may have been said perfectly in the writer's own language).
There is no obligation to collaborate with an editor, but the option may help some people.
