A SINGLE WISH

in The Ink Well3 years ago (edited)

Charles was a guy who love to draw and write comics. He was very good at it. He loves his classmate named Jessica but he didn't have the confidence to express his feelings to her. She was famous and friendly. She was just the direct opposite of Charles because she had many attributes different from Charles. Charles wrote a comic about her that they were coming from coming back from school when their school bus was stopped by a masked man. The masked man pushed out the driver away and went inside and carried Jessica. Charles attempts to rescue her but he didn't because his friend to her that the man is armed.

The marked man carried Jessica into a black van and drove away. Charles's friend drove the bus to chase the black van. Charles then climbs the top of the school bus as they approach the van. He jumps jumped on the roof of the van and skillfully rescues Jessica. Jessica was very happy with is courage. All this was just Charles's comic writing and drawing. But he wished he had the courage in the real life.

The following day, Charles saw Jessica handing out the invitations for her birthday party. Charles was sad because he hasn't been invited yet. During the lunch break, Charles's friend told him to gather some courage to go talk to Jessica. Charles refused because he was very shy but his friend push him to Jessica's table. Charles was very nervous that accidentally throw up on Jessica's table, destroying any chances he had to go to her party.

He got home feeling very sad about what happened at school but not until his friend barges into his room and makes him practice the dance routine that they always perform in private. At midnight, he wishes for a second chance with Jessica. The following morning, he woke up and looks in the mirror, and discovered he had changed to a completely different person, more handsome than his former self. He then realized his wish has come true and now had a chance to get invited to Jessica's birthday.

He got to school and was surprised by the reactions of his schoolmate because was intrigued by the new handsome guy. His best friend and his sister couldn't recognize him but he managed to convince them that he is still Charles by drawing in his regular style. They gave him a new name (Tammy) and ask him to enjoy being attractive while it lasts. He got invited to her birthday and they had fun. After the party, they all went home. Charles feels he had to talk to Jessica. So, he went back to her house. On getting there, he discovered he had changed to his real self. He then used the confidence he has as Tammy.

He got to her house and finds Jessica cleaning the house only. He offers to help her but Jessica refused and tells him to go away. He then hands the chocolate he had bought earlier. They sat and ate the chocolate together. Jessica called him by his real name, he was very surprised. Jessica finally said he is not talking to him because he is Tammy but she actually like him.

You change the character several times here. At first he is engaged in a kind of fantasy born of his drawings. Then he makes a wish and changes his appearance. Finally, having learned from his experience in another sort of body, he gains confidence and behaves more assertively.

Your story is an exploration, it seems in how our self image affects the way the we behave and the way people react to. This is an interesting story-writing exercise.

Thank you for sharing this story with us. We appreciate that you engage with other writers.
