My visit

in The Ink Well9 months ago

Every culture has a superstition belief, one fateful day i went to Village to visit my grandma and relatives. Before i went to the village, i heard an old Man died and there's a big celebration for him , where masquerades are expected to come out for three nights. One fateful evening my cousin Benita and i went out to see a relative, it's about 9:15 pm Benita said to me calmly " sis let's start going home, the masquerade will coming out by 10:00 pm". I asked her " enhennn! what is my business with the masquerade is it my grandfather that died? Or what is the repercussions after seeing the masquerade?" My cousin was shocked she was silent for a while and replied " as a woman if you set your eyes on this masquerade, you will never give birth again, you will be childless for the rest of your life" I looked at her and smiled, then i asked her "who in the village have ever seen the masquerade and didn't give birth?" She was queit for a while then she replied " in the past she heard about the story of a young lady who saw the masquerade mistakenly, despite all the cleansing in that shrine, she still did not give birth, her husband has to take a second wife, who gave him children, so since then, there's a time for the masquerade to come out and at that particular time every woman is supposed to be inside the house".
I said to myself so this superstition still exist , i exclaimed.
While we were still sitting one of brother called and started shouting we should come back home, Joshua we went to see said "this is something that will not happen except you believe in it, please stay and keep me company, i will escort you home". He said calmly.
My cousin and i stayed, we ate, gist and had fun with the children in the house. The mother was so happy to have us around. We went home and my uncles and cousin brothers were all shouting at us because we were out till the time the masquerade was out, all we could do was to apologise, then we went inside the room and sleep with a sad face.
Visiting the village was fun , i was able to meet with my longtime no see cousins, relatives and friends. Going to the farm, with my cousins to work despite the fact that I don't know how to weed, they banters at me , i will only laugh and still do More to make it fun.
Before we got home, they teased me of not knowing how prepare a delicious meal, i smiled and i proved them wrong, when we got home, i make sure i take my time and prepared catfish Stew and tuwo rice without the assistance of Benita. When the food is ready, Ronald one of my cousin said jokingly " is time for us to eat our concussion" they all laughed.
I brought the food out and placed it at the middle we all ate together at the sitting room, they were shocked and surprised, I hide the remaining food, they were requesting for more, i told them it's finish, but they didn't believe, Ronald went inside the room and brought the food out. I said to them " so you still believe in this superstition that, every Young lady who did not grow in the village, have no idea on how to cook, thank God i proved you wrong". I laughed so hard and i was so proud of myself. Since then none of them was able to ridiculed me again. As time goes on my cousins will take me out to see places in the village, visit their Friends and also going for festivals. This time around the festival is for everyone, no gender segregation. It was fun watching masquerade dance and other traditional rites.

The few time i spent with my cousins in the village was fun, it was remaining few days for me to leave, i decided to inform Them i will be leaving, they were very sad , what they did was to make me the chef of the house before I leave. The day i was leaving everyone in the house was sad, including i myself because I was going to miss them, the fun we had together. They escorted me to the park and waited for the bus to move before leaving, they waved at the bus until it disappears.
I will love to visit again to share love. https://www.istockphoto.com/en/photo/anonymous-friends-having-appetizers-at-table-gm2091085832-565823112
