It was a great Friday for the couple Hannah and Bruno, they had a simple date after a busy day. They are now walking toward Hannah's apartment, she is accompanied by Bruno. He wants to make sure that Hannah can go home safely.
Have a goodnight! she said while smiling and looking at her beloved boyfriend.
Goodnight Bruno replied.
They kissed each other before Bruno walked away from his girlfriend's house.
This couple have been together since high school. Their relationship and bond are going stronger each year. They have ups and downs but never separated from each other. They are like a magnet, they love each other.
Hannah became a lawyer, she was in this industry for two years while Bruno did not manage to finish his degree because of financial and family problems.
Bruno is walking towards their house, he is smiling all the time while reminiscing every moment when he was with his girlfriend.
Just like other people's lives, he also has a problem. His smile faded away when he entered the house. He saw his dad drunk, the whole house is a mess.
He has been with his dad for 5 years, his mother is working far from them. His dad has a bad habit, he loves drinking alcohol all day, smoking, he even has a mistress.
Bruno is aware of everything, it hurts that he cannot tell his mother about his father. He knows that she will be shocked, he is afraid that his mother will die because of the serious illness at heart when she knows everything. So, he chooses not to tell his mother.
He just ignores his dad, he tried a lot of times to talk with him but he was just getting hit. He wants to punch his father but there are some parts of him saying that it is bad and he is his father.
Time passes by, he always meets Hannah, they are having a good bond each day. Hannah knows everything about his family, she knows the status of her boyfriend to his dad. She is aware of it.
So? See you tomorrow? Hannah asked.
Of course, see you. I need to go home. Like before, he accompanied Hannah to her apartment.
Hours passed when Hannah's phone rings. Someone is calling on her phone.
Is this Bruno's girlfriend? a man on the other line asked.
Yes, why?
Your boyfriend is in the police custody for killing Arnold Valerde, his father, we will wait for you in the precin--- the police didn't finish his words when Hannah cut the line.
She was shocked with the call, she didn't expect it. She is just with her boyfriend for the last hours, she knows that her boyfriend has no intention to do it. He immediately looked for a taxi and went to the precinct.
I am Hannah Villamore, Bruno Valerde's lawyer. He rushed to the precinct looking for her boyfriend.
The police accompanied her to the place where her boyfriend was sitting. It was a calm room with CCTV cameras on the wall. It is the interrogation room.
It's okay, it's okay. She is now crying while hugging him.
What happened? Bruno stared at her with his unusual emotionless face. He didn't say anything to her.
What's wrong? Tell me. She said, but again, she didn't receive a reply.
Okay, just rest for now. I will come back when you are ready. She sighed and decided to leave him first, she realized that he probably needed a space.
She is walking towards the door when Bruno suddenly speaks. I killed him.
She was shocked, she didn't believe him. No, you are lying. We were just fine a few hours ago. We are laughing and I never saw any mark of madness and now you are telling me that? she said with a loud voice.
Bruno just looked at her then laughed sarcastically. You always think that you are right. Tch.
She is hurt from the words that came out of her boyfriend's mouth. This is the first time that he said something like that to her. You are just shocked from what happened, let's talk later.
She was smiling while saying those lines but she was hurt, she cannot do anything but to ignore it. She knows that he was just shocked.
She left him in the room and approached the police.
What happened? she asked the police.
According to the witness, she was passing by with the Valerde's house when she heard a man shouting, breaking glasses, she became curious and decided to look from the window. She was shocked when she saw Mr. Valerde lying on the floor while your boyfriend is holding the knife with blood. She immediately call the police. The police explained everything.
The fingerprint from the knife matches on Bruno's fingerprint. the police added.
She was speechless from the information that she got.
I am sure that this case will be closed quickly. We had some investigations and it all matches to the information that we've got. Also, your boyfriend is admitting the crime.
Wait...wait...I am sure that he cannot do it. I was with him before the incident, I cannot see any sign of thoughts like killing from him!
A culprit will not make any sign of attention to their plan. You should know that, Attorney.
Yes but--
No buts in the court, Attorney.
The police ended the conversation. She can't do anything, she talked to him many times but he just keeps saying that he killed his dad. For the first time, she did not believe in her boyfriend.
I am sorry, Bruno. But I do not believe in you. she said.
I told you I killed him, I left him Hannah. If I didn't ignore him, this would not happen.
His statement caught Hannah's attention. This is her moment, she believes that he will tell the truth. They are now in the interrogation room. If there is no concrete evidence that will prove his innocence after 24 hours, he will be in prison.
Hannah knows that this is her last chance to prove his innocence. She pressed the button inside the room to record their conversation. She sat on the chair and interrogated him carefully.
What do you mean? she asked calmly. Bruno stayed quiet while crying. Hannah let him cry, for being a lawyer for two years, she has been trained not to force anyone to speak, it has a psychological explanation.
I went from your apartment to accompany you, right? When I got home, I saw dad crying while saying sorry…
Bruno stopped and started to cry like a kid. Hannah didn't talk, she listened.
When he saw me, he hugged me while saying sorry…
I know that it is unusual, but I can't forgive him immediately. So, I ignored him. I left him in the living room and I went to my room.
He cannot speak clearly while spilling the truth because of his emotions. He is crying hard and no one can stop his tears.
Then suddenly, I heard a breaking glass. So I rushed towards the living room to see if he was okay. I saw him throwing the glasses, then he grabbed a knife and stabbed him---self.
He cried a lot, even Hannah cried while listening to his story. She wanted to hug him but she wanted to do it at the right time.
I ran towards him, I pulled the knife on his chest. He looked at me while smiling...I saw his mouth saying sorry.
He stopped while Hannah feels that there is something more to his story.
Before he released his last breath, he get something in his pocket and gave it to me...it is a piece of paper.
Bruno gets the paper in his pocket, he gives it to Hannah.
Hannah also cried when she reads the letter from the paper.
Hey son, I am sorry for being an irresponsible dad. Since your mother left the house to work, I became like this. I date other girls, drink all day without knowing that I have a son that needs my attention. I am sorry. I realized that I have no rights to live longer. Please say sorry to your mom for me. I love you both.
Hannah hugged Bruno tightly. She caressed his back and cried together.
After the next hours, Bruno is now thinking clearer than before. He have a guilt because he believes that he shouldn't ignored his dad and he is the reason of his dad's suicide. Hannah kept comforting him and decided to give the record of their conversation.
Police started an investigation to double check the information that Bruno spilled. In the end, the custody decided not to put him in jail for being not guilty.
They went to the burial of his dad and gave his farewell. He apologized and thanked his father for everything. After a few days, they decided to go to Bruno's mom to tell everything.
It turns out that she already know about her husband's mistress, it is one of the reasons why she left but she was shocked when they said that her husband committed suicide, they even went to hospital because she collapsed. Fortunately, it was only because of the shock.
Everything became tough after the incident but the relationship between Hannah and Bruno is stronger than their problems.
I really enjoyed this story, @theimpostor. You gave us an original plot and complex, believable characters. Good job. (I left a little tip instead of an upvote right now because I'm letting my VP build for the day).

Wow, you pulled off a murder mystery in a short story! Hannah was certainly right that Bruno had not actually killed his father, but it certainly seemed like there was no other answer until the truth was revealed!
Thanks, I actually had a hard time to make this story shorter. I just go with not beating around the bush then reveal the truth. Hope you like it.
This is a wonderful story, with a sophisticated plot. You develop complex characters in Bruno and his father. There is nothing predictable about this story...that's great. A plot that surprises us.
